Bernal Dominguez, Mercedes Irene
Obituary
Mercedes Irene Bernal Dominguez, (Mercy) 85 years old, died at Dallas Medical Center on May 28th, 2019. Born October 20th, 1933 in San Antonio Texas, she lived there until 1989 where she was the co-owner of Reliable Printing. She moved with her daughter, Patsy Dominguez and was employed at Southwestern Bell where she worked in Real Estate Management. She retired in 2004. “Mercy” played the piano like a pro. The family gatherings included her brother, Louis Bernal on violin and others played trumpet and other instruments. The family gatherings were like a party. She was a vibrant personality always with a smile on her face. She never met a stranger; she loved to talk with people and make them feel important. At a younger age, she played tennis and loved to bowl; her high score was 218. She was so proud of that. Everything she did she did well. Her outstanding personality traits were her honesty and direct approach with all the people she encountered. Throughout her life, she helped her family and others get a foothold in life. She would call people and actually play the piano over the phone to play Happy Birthday or just to say hello. Music was her life whether she played the piano or listened to Enrique Chia on YouTube constantly in her later years. She particularly loved Ragtime and of course, she could play Classical or Mexican any kind of music with gusto! Something of note is that she could play the “Fight of the Bumble Bee” at the young age of seven years old. In fact, she wasn’t too popular with her sisters. When it came time to wash the dishes, Ama wanted her to participate but Apa said, NO! We have to protect her hands, she won’t be washing the dishes. Mercy was an entertainer, a mentor, and a giver and she was loved by all. She cared deeply for her brothers and sisters and of course her daughter, Patsy Ann Dominguez, her son Jerry Louis Dominguez, her great-grandchildren and grandchildren. Mercy’s final resting place will be with her mother and father at the San Fernando Cemetary in San Antonio. Survivors include daughter, Patsy Dominguez, son Jerry Dominguez, grandchildren, Jason Dominguez, Jennifer Gutierez, Jessica Gillespie, Julia Dominguez and great-grandchildren, Tyler Dominguez, Dorian Gutierrez, Dillon Louis Gutierrez, Brendan Gillespie and Liam Gillespie. A Memorial Service has been scheduled for Saturday, June 8, 2019 at 2:00pm at Aria Cremation Service and Funeral Home on 19310 Preston Road, Dallas, Texas, 75252

My sincere thanks to Patsy for introducing me to her mother during our time working together. I had the privilege of calling Mercedes ‘Mom’ whenever she called. I regret never having the joy of actually meeting her. Heartache never disappears, but does subside. Speak of her often with love and laughter; there is no greater tribute.
