Obituary

John David Ferguson was surrounded by his family as he entered the presence of his Lord and Savior on October 5, 2019. John David was born on February 24, 1952 in Longview, Texas to Rev. John and Bernice Ferguson. He is survived by his wife, Carol; three daughters, Leslie Sanderson, Emily Baker, and Molly White; three sons-in-law, Justin Sanderson, Adam Baker, and Zachary White; and six grandchildren.  He is also survived by his sisters, Suzanne Messersmith (Gary) and Carol Gremillion (Terry); brothers-in-law, David Ponder (Leanne), Stephen Ponder (Bliss), and Mark Ponder (Julia); and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. John David is a graduate of Denver City High School and Baylor University. His entire career was spent in business, both in the corporate world and small business ownership. Above all, John David’s greatest joys were serving his family and serving his church. John David served Prestonwood Baptist Church as a Trustee, Chairman of the Deacons, Chairman of the Personnel Committee, and Bible Fellowship Teacher.  He also served as a Trustee for Prestonwood Christian Academy and as a founding Trustee for PCA’s South Dallas school, The King’s Academy. John David loved supporting the ministries of Bonton, as well as the Bill Glass Prison Ministry. John David’s legacy of faith, love, and service is sure to be impactful for generations to come. His best qualities were his strength, generosity, great tenderness, and sense of humor. Throughout his battle with leukemia, John David pointed his family and friends to the faithfulness of God and the assurance he had in his salvation through Jesus Christ.  He often reminded his family, “Either way this goes, I win.” I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 2 Timothy 4:7   Memorials may be made to:  Sponsor-A-Child Program   SERVICE DETAILS: The family will receive visitors in the Fireside Room at Prestonwood Baptist Church on Thursday, October 10 from 5pm -7pm. I have known John David from childhood, and I count my blessings for that privilege. He was always so quick to extend a welcomed arm of inclusion and a sincerity of concerned thoughts for the human other; for exclusion was foreign to him. He could fill a room full of laughter, but a unique laughter that had the potential to settle any uneasiness or even calm the pangs of life that may surround us momentarily. For such laughter enveloped the very traits innate in his spirit: the love of God, the love of his family, and the love of others. What a fine human being and evidence proves so through his beautiful family members, who carry with them his traits that accomplished great things for the betterment of humankind. Perhaps, with time, the very spirit of that laughter may be the most important factor comforting those who miss him deeply and love him wholly. Heaven is even sweeter and more dear knowing that John David is in the presence of His King, who fashioned his spirit with that all-encompassing laughter that connected us all to God’s love.

My deepest condolences for your loss of John David. I have such fond memories of him and his sweet family as we were growing up in the church in Bovina. He had that kind and loving spirit then. Prayers for your comfort and peace as you remember him in the coming days.

I found myself crying after reading that obituary because John was so full of life and joy…one of my favorite memories of him is that at the end of every month if he achieved the $$ in sales that he had projected, he would swing by my desk, lean down right in my face and with his index finger extended say gleefully,
    ” I MADE MY NUMBER!!”
Because I knew that he really knew this, I would always say,
“John, you know you didn’t make your number. GOD made your number!” He would always agree and we got a good laugh about it every month. Can’t wait to see him again!

"Nothing prepares you for the grief you go through when losing a child. I called this funeral home at 2:00 am broken and could barely talk. The amount of compassion and empathy they showed me immediately let me know I found the right place to cremate my son. I cannot thank them enough for their professionalism, SINCERE concern, and commitment to making sure my son was honored in the most respectful way. I hope this Funeral home values her as much as my family and I do."

"I can’t say enough about how helpful and professional Dusty Martin, the funeral director at the Aria Cremation location on NW Highway has been. From my initial call, he was kind and informative. My friend died at home while on hospice and she was picked up in about an hour after receiving the call from the hospice nurse. The person who arrived to pick her up was also very professional/respectful and allowed us to take as much time with her as we wished. When I met with Dusty the next day about arrangements, he explained the process and options available without being pushy or trying to “sell” extras. Throughout the process, he kept me informed and, for example, was careful to be certain I understood the cost of the obituary I wanted and offered some options for reducing that cost if I wished. When I stopped by for another reason and started talking about some of the problems I was having with the pictures and media I hoped to use at a memorial lunch I was planning, he not only listened patiently but offered technology advice and let me use his personal media player. I have had experience arranging cremations for four others using two other local companies, and this experience with Dusty at Aria has been by far the best one I have had."

"My Daddy’s service and our family experience at Aria Northwest Highway was truly blessed. Funeral Director Dustin Martin is the kind of person that you would like to see on a more regular basis – but in his industry – you hope to not see him that often. That being said – THANK YOU DUSTIN for your unending kindness, compassion and friendship through the process. Meeting you and discussing Dallas History, Find A Grave and my Dad’s lifelong contributions to the great City of Dallas was simply wonderful! In memory of my dad James A. Dodd, Sr. – I want to personally thank you and let you know that you made everything better in that moment. Your calling to “Be There” is spot on. Aria has a one in a million guy in you! Bling Blinky of TEXAS Shout Out: God Bless You!!"
