Barber, Carl Wayne

Carl Wayne Barber,70, died at his residence in Plano on October 22nd.

Wayne, as many of you called him, was born on July 2nd in Fort Lauderdale, Florida to Leta Iris and Elton Brown Barber with one older sister by his side. He grew up as a Baptist and enjoyed playing sports. At the age of 17 he enlisted into the United States Army and served in Vietnam from 1967-1968 as a radio operator for a LRRP team. After coming back into the states he attended Western State College to pursue and graduate with a masters degree in Education. He then taught for a couple of years in Colorado and moved down to Texas where he taught at Aldridge elementary in PISD for 30 years before finally retiring. Outside of his school life, Wayne loved traveling down to the VFW (post 8627) where he would sit, drink, and socialize with many of people here today. He could be seen anywhere whether it be at the monthly Brunch, steak night, annual chili cook off or fish fry, rolling dice or playing pin ball machines. Some other activities he enjoyed included fishing, hunting, reading books, or watching western movies. Last but not least he was an AMAZING cook and loved baking!

He is survived by his son Michael “Eric” Barber; and daughter Kelly Michelle Barber and precious grandson Brandon Wayne Smith. Wayne also has a couple nephews and nieces.

I am so sorry to hear of Wayne's passing. I taught with Wayne at Aldridge Elementary from 1981-1990. He was a dear friend and colleague, and although we had lost touch over the last few years, he will always have a special place in my heart. My deepest condolences to his family, and may you all receive God's blessings of comfort, healing, and peace. Fondly, Marion

My deepest sympathy and prayers. I was the School Nurse at Aldridge Elementary School, and taught with Wayne many years. He was a wonderful teacher and had a great rapport with student, parents and staff. He was a proud American and veteran. I remember those years fondly. God bless you, and comfort you in your loss.
