Obituary

Janet Louise Shone, age 76, passed away peacefully at her home into the loving arms of her Lord on Wednesday, February 26, 2020.   Her health had been in decline over the past couple of years, but her will to live was so strong.  She was very active–living her life to the fullest–until the very end.  Janet was a loving grandmother (nicknamed JG), mother, mother-in-law, and a friend to all those whose lives she touched.  Janet exemplified the old saying, “Work Hard, Play Hard” and also, “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.”  She was always the life of the party and made an impression on everybody she met.   We loved her so much, and she will be missed. Janet was born on August 31st, 1943 in McMinnville, OR to Kenneth and Arlene Pearson.  She attended Grants Pass High School where she was a Majorette and the best baton twirler that they had ever seen (in her opinion).  She met her future husband, Keith Shone, there, and graduated HS in 1961.  She was married to Keith in 1963 while attending the University of Oregon.  They eventually moved to Seattle, WA where her two daughters were born, Jennifer and Erin.  Keith worked for the federal government and in the oil business and they moved quite a bit, living in Vienna, VA; Brea, CA; and Denver, CO, before finally settling down in Plano, TX in 1986. Shortly after moving to Texas, Janet began her career in real estate where she became a multi-million-dollar producer for Henry S. Miller and Ebby Halliday.  She became a world traveler visiting exotic places all over the globe.  One of the most important things to Janet was family, and she would always bring at least one of her daughters with her so they could experience the world’s delights together.  One of her favorite sayings was “You were my baby long ago, and you still are if I say so.” Janet is preceded in death by her mother, Arlene Pearson, father, Ken Pearson, and brothers Tom and Mike Pearson.  She is survived by her children, Jennifer King and her husband, Mike (Lucas, TX); Erin Morales and her husband, Rob (Austin, TX).  She also has five beautiful grandchildren: Hayden, Avery, Lola, Charlie Mae and Harper.  She loved spending time with her grandkids and considered them her life’s greatest treasure. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 12th at 10:30 am at St. Andrew United Methodist Church, 5801 W. Plano Parkway, Plano, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests you consider a donation be made in her honor to the K.I.D.S IQ Project www.kidsiqproject.org or an organization of the donors choice.   Please leave the family condolences and share memories on this website.

Janet always had a way of making you feel like you were the most talented and special person in the room. We have been friends for 40 years and although our life journeys took us to different states, we always stayed in touch and enjoyed reminiscing over so many wonderful memories we shared through the years. Her beautiful daughters, Jennifer and Erin, will continue to be a reflection of all the wonderful things Janet was to all who were blessed to know her. I count myself among that group and will be forever grateful for the joy and love she brought into my life. Thank you, my dear friend. You will be so missed by so many.

The sight of Janet always brought a smile to my face. My greatest compliment to a person is that they were “fun” and Janet was fun and you just loved being around her. I will miss her. My love to her daughters that she so cherished.

"Nothing prepares you for the grief you go through when losing a child. I called this funeral home at 2:00 am broken and could barely talk. The amount of compassion and empathy they showed me immediately let me know I found the right place to cremate my son. I cannot thank them enough for their professionalism, SINCERE concern, and commitment to making sure my son was honored in the most respectful way. I hope this Funeral home values her as much as my family and I do."

"I can’t say enough about how helpful and professional Dusty Martin, the funeral director at the Aria Cremation location on NW Highway has been. From my initial call, he was kind and informative. My friend died at home while on hospice and she was picked up in about an hour after receiving the call from the hospice nurse. The person who arrived to pick her up was also very professional/respectful and allowed us to take as much time with her as we wished. When I met with Dusty the next day about arrangements, he explained the process and options available without being pushy or trying to “sell” extras. Throughout the process, he kept me informed and, for example, was careful to be certain I understood the cost of the obituary I wanted and offered some options for reducing that cost if I wished. When I stopped by for another reason and started talking about some of the problems I was having with the pictures and media I hoped to use at a memorial lunch I was planning, he not only listened patiently but offered technology advice and let me use his personal media player. I have had experience arranging cremations for four others using two other local companies, and this experience with Dusty at Aria has been by far the best one I have had."

"My Daddy’s service and our family experience at Aria Northwest Highway was truly blessed. Funeral Director Dustin Martin is the kind of person that you would like to see on a more regular basis – but in his industry – you hope to not see him that often. That being said – THANK YOU DUSTIN for your unending kindness, compassion and friendship through the process. Meeting you and discussing Dallas History, Find A Grave and my Dad’s lifelong contributions to the great City of Dallas was simply wonderful! In memory of my dad James A. Dodd, Sr. – I want to personally thank you and let you know that you made everything better in that moment. Your calling to “Be There” is spot on. Aria has a one in a million guy in you! Bling Blinky of TEXAS Shout Out: God Bless You!!"
