Davis, Jacquelyn Joy (Jolley)

Obituary

Jacquelyn (Jackie) Joy Davis passed away on Friday, April 24, 2020. Born on July 25, 1932, in New Orleans, Louisiana. She was a graduate of McMain High School in New Orleans and attended Louisiana State University. As the young teenage daughter of a prominent businessman, she and her sisters (Pat and Sandy) were part of the New Orleans social scene which often included the likes of Robert Mitchum among others. She always loved to tell about him coming over for dinner and having her picture taken with him holding her in his arms. She met her husband, Sam on a “blind date” in 1950 and were wed on December 19, 1953. They remained together for almost 67 years only to be separated by Sam’s passing in September of 2017. The family takes comfort in knowing that she is now with him again, most likely enjoying a cocktail and some of her famous red beans. They settled in Lubbock, Texas where she gave birth to their first of four children, Jay. Shortly after, they moved to Shreveport, Louisiana where both their daughters (Chris then Libby) were born. After a brief stay in Atlanta, Georgia, they all moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma where their second son and fourth child, David, was born. They remained in Tulsa for nearly 20 years before moving to Dallas, Texas. Known for her cooking, she reveled in preparing, serving, then sharing her recipes amongst family and friends with the exception of her mother’s barbeque sauce recipe which was a closely guarded secret even amongst her children. Her hobbies included making and decorating cakes and candies much to the delight of her husband and friends who anxiously awaited every birthday and holiday. However, it was her great love of entertaining which most will remember her for. Their home was always open, not only for family but for friends who often dropped by for an Old Fashion or Chimayo Cocktail where the conversation was relaxed and Neil Diamond or Barbara Streisand played in the background. She was member of The Dallas Theatre Club and then the YMCA where she enjoyed water aerobics with a close knit group of ladies, something she looked forward to attending each and every morning. She never tired of loving and doting on all her grandkids and great grandkids, who affectionately called her Gammie or Mom Mom. She enjoyed dancing and swimming with them when they came to visit her. Jackie is survived by, her son Jay and daughter in law Debbie Davis of Southlake, TX, daughter Libby Davis Vermeire of Allen, TX, son David and daughter in law Laurie Davis of Allen, TX. Grandchildren Cody and wife Emily Davis of Tulsa, OK, Samantha Flowers of Sachse, TX, Garrett Flowers of Dallas, TX, Clayton and wife Anna-Marie Vermeire of Princeton, TX, Jacquelyn (Jackie) Vermeire of New Hope, TX, and Joseph, Adam and Luke Davis of Allen, TX, great grandson Samuel (Sam) Davis and great granddaughter Jane Davis of Tulsa, OK, and great grandson Louis Vermeire of Princeton, TX. She is also survived by her sisters, Pat Jordan and Sandy Byrd, brother and sister in law Bill and Irma Davis, sisters in law Betty Davis, Barbara Davis, and Ann Davis, along with countless nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Sam, daughter Chris, and parents Virgil and Eleanor Jolley. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to Northway Christian Church, 7202 W. Northwest Highway, Dallas, TX 75225 (www.northwaychristian.org).   Please leave the family condolences and share memories on this website.

"Nothing prepares you for the grief you go through when losing a child. I called this funeral home at 2:00 am broken and could barely talk. The amount of compassion and empathy they showed me immediately let me know I found the right place to cremate my son. I cannot thank them enough for their professionalism, SINCERE concern, and commitment to making sure my son was honored in the most respectful way. I hope this Funeral home values her as much as my family and I do."

"I can’t say enough about how helpful and professional Dusty Martin, the funeral director at the Aria Cremation location on NW Highway has been. From my initial call, he was kind and informative. My friend died at home while on hospice and she was picked up in about an hour after receiving the call from the hospice nurse. The person who arrived to pick her up was also very professional/respectful and allowed us to take as much time with her as we wished. When I met with Dusty the next day about arrangements, he explained the process and options available without being pushy or trying to “sell” extras. Throughout the process, he kept me informed and, for example, was careful to be certain I understood the cost of the obituary I wanted and offered some options for reducing that cost if I wished. When I stopped by for another reason and started talking about some of the problems I was having with the pictures and media I hoped to use at a memorial lunch I was planning, he not only listened patiently but offered technology advice and let me use his personal media player. I have had experience arranging cremations for four others using two other local companies, and this experience with Dusty at Aria has been by far the best one I have had."

"My Daddy’s service and our family experience at Aria Northwest Highway was truly blessed. Funeral Director Dustin Martin is the kind of person that you would like to see on a more regular basis – but in his industry – you hope to not see him that often. That being said – THANK YOU DUSTIN for your unending kindness, compassion and friendship through the process. Meeting you and discussing Dallas History, Find A Grave and my Dad’s lifelong contributions to the great City of Dallas was simply wonderful! In memory of my dad James A. Dodd, Sr. – I want to personally thank you and let you know that you made everything better in that moment. Your calling to “Be There” is spot on. Aria has a one in a million guy in you! Bling Blinky of TEXAS Shout Out: God Bless You!!"
