Middlebrook, McCarter "Mac"
Obituary
“And I will rejoice over you with singing!” Zephaniah 3:17 McCarter “Mac” Middlebrook, 84 years of age, peacefully passed away in his sleep in Dallas, Texas on Saturday, April 25th after battling with Parkinson’s disease. He was born and raised in Nacogdoches, Texas where he was the salutatorian of his senior class. After high school he accepted a scholarship from the University of Texas and received an undergraduate degree in chemistry. In college Mac was the president of Delta Upsilon Fraternity and this is where he would meet his beloved wife of 50 years, Mary Ruth. He went onto to obtain a law degree from the University of Houston, as well as serving in the Army Reserves. Professionally, over the years Mac worked as a tax attorney for several oil and gas companies: Shell, Texaco, Gulf, Getty, and lastly, as Head of Legal Tax Counsel at Diamond Shamrock and Maxus Energy Corporation. Mac was known to be extremely intellectual and highly esteemed by friends and colleagues. He was also very influential in lobbying for the oil and gas industry in Washington D.C. Mac was a devoted husband, father of three daughters, and affectionately known as “Mac Mac” to his seven grandchildren. He was raised in the Presbyterian Church and continued to grow in his faith throughout his life. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Dallas and served as a Stephen Minister for several years. During Mac’s life he moved back and forth from Texas to California. Being a Texan at heart he was an avid University of Texas football fan, even attending games up until the last year of his life. He would proudly raise his hand in UT fashion with a “Hookem’ Horns.” Throughout Mac’s life he had many different interests and hobbies. In his early years he found a love for classical music. He was taught to play the piano by his three musically talented aunts that were pivotal in raising him. His passion of music led him to sing in several choirs and over the years he enjoyed going to the Santa Fe Opera and the Dallas Symphony. Mac also, excelled in many different sports ranging from competitive sailing, hunting, fishing, tennis, golf, cycling, and running several marathons. Hobbies and other activities included reading the Wall Street Journal, camping, bird watching, cooking, poker and playing canasta. Another favorite pastime was wine making in New Mexico with two of his friends and partners. They produced and enjoyed various wines in which they labeled Los Tres Viejos. Over the years he served on numerous boards of the communities where he lived, and he was always trying to solve the latest problem or put out a fire. Mac was blessed to be able to travel extensively all over the world through work and for pleasure with his wife and family. He was extremely generous in taking his entire family on an Alaskan Cruise where he and his wife renewed their vows. Recently, he again took the entire family on an unforgettable Mediterranean cruise with memories that will last a lifetime. In 2014 He completed a bucket list item by visiting all 50 states when traveling to Mount Rushmore in South Dakota. Mac retired relatively young, living the good life while relaxing and doing the things he loved. He cherished his many friendships with his extended family and friends all over the world. He loved his pets, especially his favorite cat, Missy Noel. In December of 2011, his treasured wife died from a terminal brain tumor. Prior to her death they celebrated their 50th year wedding anniversary with their family. Mac continued to live his life to the fullest despite the loss of his wife and his fight with Parkinson’s Disease. He will be greatly missed by those who knew him and loved him. Yet, he is now joyfully home in the arms of his wife and Savior. Mac is survived by his three daughters Stephanie Eberle (John), Pamela Carr (William), Claire Stone; grandchildren, Austin Eberle, Alexandra Carr, Erin Eberle, Madison Carr, Paul Carr, Parker Stone and Chappel Stone; sister-in-law Genny Mantzuranis, husband Chris Mantzuranis and children; He was predeceased by his younger brother, Edward Middlebrook. Currently, due to the Covid 19, a “Celebration of his Life” is uncertain. Further notice to come. In Lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation in memory of McCarter Middlebrook. www.michaeljfox.org Please leave the family condolences and share memories on this website.

I was so sorry to hear about Mac’s death. My husband is a distant coursin, and we met him several years ago and took him to the McCarter Cemetery in Minden, TX. We never had a change to tell him we finally got a marker for his great grandparents. David and Pam Brown
