Obituary

James (“Jim”) W. Fox, aged 82, son of Olivia and Maxwell Fox, departed this life peacefully on May 14th, 2020.  Born in Boston, MA and raised in Scarsdale, NY, Jim earned a degree in English at Hamilton College before embarking upon two international assignments in his young career, the first between 1960 and 1962, as a translator for a manufacturer located in Weinheim, Germany.  Following that, Jim moved to Lagos, Nigeria, where he spent four years working for another manufacturer’s export division.  Jim’s experiences in those countries, particularly Nigeria, influenced his love of all things international, especially international foods and spices, travel, and encounters with people from West Africa.  Jim spent the remainder of his single days, living in New York City in the late 60s and early 70s. During Jim’s young life, his interest in musical performance, first with his high school band, the Melody Men, and later with the Hamilton College Choir and the Chamber Choir of the Palatinate in Germany, would serve as a constant source of pleasure and purpose.  Indeed, his love of music led him to the true love of his life, his wife of 49 years, Linda, whom he met while rehearsing together for the New York Choral Society.  Married in 1971, Jim and Linda lived in New York City and in Bedford, NY before moving to Plano, TX in 1976 in pursuit of a new career for Jim in oil and natural gas.  Jim worked in this capacity for several years before working in the mergers and acquisitions field for most of the remainder of his career. Jim had an infectious enthusiasm for wine appreciation and enjoyment, which was instrumental to the social bonds that he would form over his life, particularly in the later stage of it.  Jim loved nothing more than his family, which was the true focus of his life from the first day of his marriage.  But most of all, Jim is remembered for his optimism and his faith in the good of humanity.  He had few, if any, ill feelings or words towards others, even to those who warranted it.  His children are eternally grateful for the wonderful example of love of humanity that he exemplified.  Jim is survived by his loving and loyal wife, Linda of Plano, TX, his two children, Tim Fox (and Heidi Huntley Fox) of Arlington, VA and Julie Berens (and Scott Berens) of Richardson, TX, his grandson, Harvey Berens, and his sister, Linda Duryea of Hopewell Junction, NY. Due to COVID-19, Jim’s life will be celebrated privately with family.  In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Hamilton College, 198 College Hill Road, Clinton, NY 13323 or to the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Building Fund, 2701 Piedra Drive, Plano, TX 75023. Please leave the family condolences and share memories on this website.

What a wonderful man Mr. Fox was! It was my great blessing to come to know him while Tim and I were at Hamilton together. His kindness and good nature were unparalleled. He was an unflappable optimist, and his joie de vivre was infectious. The best of these qualities have always been readily apparent in how they were passed on to Tim. I looked forward to his visits to campus, and while I saw him less frequently since graduation it was always as if no time had passed. I am very sorry to learn of his passing.

"Nothing prepares you for the grief you go through when losing a child. I called this funeral home at 2:00 am broken and could barely talk. The amount of compassion and empathy they showed me immediately let me know I found the right place to cremate my son. I cannot thank them enough for their professionalism, SINCERE concern, and commitment to making sure my son was honored in the most respectful way. I hope this Funeral home values her as much as my family and I do."

"I can’t say enough about how helpful and professional Dusty Martin, the funeral director at the Aria Cremation location on NW Highway has been. From my initial call, he was kind and informative. My friend died at home while on hospice and she was picked up in about an hour after receiving the call from the hospice nurse. The person who arrived to pick her up was also very professional/respectful and allowed us to take as much time with her as we wished. When I met with Dusty the next day about arrangements, he explained the process and options available without being pushy or trying to “sell” extras. Throughout the process, he kept me informed and, for example, was careful to be certain I understood the cost of the obituary I wanted and offered some options for reducing that cost if I wished. When I stopped by for another reason and started talking about some of the problems I was having with the pictures and media I hoped to use at a memorial lunch I was planning, he not only listened patiently but offered technology advice and let me use his personal media player. I have had experience arranging cremations for four others using two other local companies, and this experience with Dusty at Aria has been by far the best one I have had."

"My Daddy’s service and our family experience at Aria Northwest Highway was truly blessed. Funeral Director Dustin Martin is the kind of person that you would like to see on a more regular basis – but in his industry – you hope to not see him that often. That being said – THANK YOU DUSTIN for your unending kindness, compassion and friendship through the process. Meeting you and discussing Dallas History, Find A Grave and my Dad’s lifelong contributions to the great City of Dallas was simply wonderful! In memory of my dad James A. Dodd, Sr. – I want to personally thank you and let you know that you made everything better in that moment. Your calling to “Be There” is spot on. Aria has a one in a million guy in you! Bling Blinky of TEXAS Shout Out: God Bless You!!"
