Landis, Jane Earl (Johnson)

September 8, 1929 - June 26, 2020

Jane Earl Landis, née Johnson, passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 26, 2020. She is survived by her husband of almost 70 years, Robert Eugene Landis; two beloved sons, George Landis (Jane) and Jim Landis (Larke); five grandchildren, George Landis Jr., Paul Landis (Stephanie), Carter Landis (Margaret), Catherine Dixon (Charles) and Patrick Landis (Catherine), and five great grandchildren. She is proceeded in death by both parents and her sister, Mary Zimmerman.

Jane was born in Cairo, IL on September 8, 1929 to Earl and Ruby Johnson, however, she grew up in Wickliffe, KY and called Kentucky “home”. She attended Murray State University as a music major where she received several awards including being crowned the Tobacco Queen in Ballard County, KY. After marriage, Jane and Robert moved to Dallas, Texas where they raised their children before settling in Jackson, Mississippi for many years. They returned to Richardson, Texas ten years ago to be closer to family.

During her life, Jane was known for her deep pride in her family, and strong religious and political beliefs. Jane was active in various groups within the Methodist Church that supported several area children’s centers. In addition to her volunteer work, she had a keen interest in music, interior design and gardening. Throughout her life, Jane provided strong emotional support for her husband in his career endeavors, her children throughout their lives as well as her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jane Earl will be missed by her family and many friends.

Services will be held at a later date. Donations in honor of Jane’s life may be made to the charity of your choice.
