Obituary

ALTAGRACIA VEGA December 31, 1927- July 16, 2020 Altagracia Emilia Vega Garcia-Planas, loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, passed peacefully into the arms of our Lord in Dallas, TX on July 16, 2020. Surrounded by her family, she died of natural causes at age 92. She was adored by many for her loving nature, her strength, and her undeniable beauty. Till her last breath, Grace carried herself with a regal sense of pride, envious wit and an elegance she made seem effortless. She fully embodied her namesake; a graceful queen walking amongst us all.  Grace touched the lives and hearts of many whom she held captive by her love, her delicious cooking, and her mesmerizing smile- not to mention her fearless ability to speak her mind! She was a force of nature on this earth, and will forever be cherished in the hearts of her many survivors. To all, the world was a better, brighter, and funnier place with her in it. She will be missed indescribably. Born December 31, 1927 in La Romana, Dominican Republic, Grace was the first born, and last surviving of her 7 siblings. Surrounded by the tropical beauty of the island, she grew up to be an independent woman who at an early age worked to take care of her grandmother and aunt until their deaths. She spent the majority of her adult life raising her family in New York City, and later relocating to Dallas, TX in her final years. Putting God and family in front of herself always, Grace was a selfless, infinitely caring individual. There were no bounds to the love she had for God and family. Her faith guided her throughout the happy times of her life as well as the hardships. In her final years,  she lived a life of prayer; meditating on the life of Christ while saying the rosary daily. She was a member of St Monica church in Dallas and loved attending Sunday mass to listen to the word of God. She was deeply devoted to the Virgin Mary, and passed unto eternal life on the feast day of our Lady of Carmel. Grace was survived by many friends, extended family and loved ones she cared for so deeply. Immediate Survivors include: daughter Jenny Sandlin and her husband Don Sandlin, son Jose Luis Vega and wife Lupita De La Cueva, son Emil Vega; grandson Ernie Vega Jr, granddaughter Grace Vega, grandson Matthew Vega, grandson Chris Vega,  granddaughter Gina Sandlin Orlando and her husband Dustin Orlando, granddaughter Devanna Vega and her mother Clarissa,  grandson Igor Vega, grandson Jose Vega, granddaughter Jacky Vega, granddaughter Sofia Vega, grandson Felipe Vega; Great grandchildren Sean Michael Clancy, Jillian Clancy, Luca Orlando and Pilar Vega. She was preceded in death by her late husband Ernesto Vega Pagan, and her beloved first born son Ernesto Rafael Vega; may they rest peacefully together, happily reunited forevermore. Due to Covid 19, a funeral mass will be held at St. Monica Church in Dallas on a date yet to be determined. Please leave the family condolences and share memories on this website.

Warm condolences Jenny, José and family. It’s so hard for me to leave this message, Alta was like a mother to me. She was a beautiful, loving and gracious lady. I’m going to miss our tea times and reminiscing about old times. Praying that God will give you the comfort and strength you need during this time and her memories will continue to carry us until we see her again.

"Nothing prepares you for the grief you go through when losing a child. I called this funeral home at 2:00 am broken and could barely talk. The amount of compassion and empathy they showed me immediately let me know I found the right place to cremate my son. I cannot thank them enough for their professionalism, SINCERE concern, and commitment to making sure my son was honored in the most respectful way. I hope this Funeral home values her as much as my family and I do."

"I can’t say enough about how helpful and professional Dusty Martin, the funeral director at the Aria Cremation location on NW Highway has been. From my initial call, he was kind and informative. My friend died at home while on hospice and she was picked up in about an hour after receiving the call from the hospice nurse. The person who arrived to pick her up was also very professional/respectful and allowed us to take as much time with her as we wished. When I met with Dusty the next day about arrangements, he explained the process and options available without being pushy or trying to “sell” extras. Throughout the process, he kept me informed and, for example, was careful to be certain I understood the cost of the obituary I wanted and offered some options for reducing that cost if I wished. When I stopped by for another reason and started talking about some of the problems I was having with the pictures and media I hoped to use at a memorial lunch I was planning, he not only listened patiently but offered technology advice and let me use his personal media player. I have had experience arranging cremations for four others using two other local companies, and this experience with Dusty at Aria has been by far the best one I have had."

"My Daddy’s service and our family experience at Aria Northwest Highway was truly blessed. Funeral Director Dustin Martin is the kind of person that you would like to see on a more regular basis – but in his industry – you hope to not see him that often. That being said – THANK YOU DUSTIN for your unending kindness, compassion and friendship through the process. Meeting you and discussing Dallas History, Find A Grave and my Dad’s lifelong contributions to the great City of Dallas was simply wonderful! In memory of my dad James A. Dodd, Sr. – I want to personally thank you and let you know that you made everything better in that moment. Your calling to “Be There” is spot on. Aria has a one in a million guy in you! Bling Blinky of TEXAS Shout Out: God Bless You!!"
