With utmost sympathy!
Betty and I taught at WB Travis Academy for the Gifted and Talented side by side for many years. She was one of the first teachers to help open the school 20 years ago. She loved the students who always came back from TAG HS telling her that without her guidance they would have floundered in their studies there. She was so very proud of them and remembered every single one! Extraordinary!
Betty and I went everywhere together. She was head of UIL which entailed getting all of the grade levels twice a year to a UIL competition. Rain or shine, freezing or hot, we drove to the competition and stayed all day. Sometimes we were the last to leave!
We also shared going to school related designations, especially those the District promoted for TAG schools. One was so far away that we got information on how to get there. The sun was just beginning to rise when we got there. When we left late that afternoon, we decided to go back home the way we’d come. But somehow we missed the exit. We continued to drive along looking for the exit. Suddenly, we realized we weren’t even in Dallas County! We were headed for Oklahoma! We started giggling at our situation and got so tickled that we couldn’t stop! She called her husband Derwood who got us out of our predicament, and we got home safely. It was so funny! But she swore me to silence about it.
Another time, I had to have surgery and my son refused to take me. I didn’t know what to do. I called my dear friend Betty who got dressed at 5AM and drove me to the hospital. She and Derwood were always there for me when my son had surgeries. They are like angels.
Betty and I enjoyed a long lunch not too long before she passed away. We hugged each other at our cars as we left. I told her how much I missed her at school after she retired. She was such a love to me I never deserved. God loves Betty.
She was so proud of her children! That sweet peculiar smile lighted up her eyes when she shared pictures of Collin and his children in Oklahoma. She loved visiting Annie who lives in California, sharing her videos with singers and others. She even got a car like Annie’s!
Betty, I love you! You are still my sunshine! Thank you! Cathryne Stone.
Der….continuing to pray for you and your family during this difficult time.
