Obituary

Jane A. Warner is now at rest with the Lord. She was born on November 15, 1933 in Chicago, IL along with her twin sister Jean, to Harold and Ellanora McArthur. She was a loving wife, dedicated mother, devoted grandma, and great grandma, cherished sister/sister-in-law, kind aunt, and caring friend to many. Jane grew up in Chicago, and was a graduate of Schurz High School, and St. Luke’s Nursing School.  She described herself as a tomboy as she loved to play outside but she also sang songs with her sister and competed with her in grades.   She made many good friends at St Luke’s Nursing School that she kept for life.   She worked the night shift as a nurse as she was also a full time homemaker.   In Centerville IA, she taught nursing at the local community college. Jane was preceded in death by her husband Robert (Bob) Warner who passed away in 2006. They enjoyed 51 years of marriage (married in a joint wedding ceremony with her sister Jean in 1955) and raised five children while living in Riverside, IL, Oak Park, IL and Centerville, IA. Family get-togethers were extremely important. The houses in Oak Park were always the central gathering place for holidays and parties and wedding receptions with relatives and friends. Jane and her husband Bob retired to Lake Lemon in Indiana in 1990 and that home became the place where family and friends connected and shared many wonderful memories together. She loved entertaining and loved when everyone would come out to enjoy boating, tubing, skiing, fishing and playing cards/games together.  She learned (nephews Billy & David taught her) to water ski when she was 35 and continued doing it for another 30 years. The Lutheran Church and her strong faith were central in Jane’s life.  She met her husband Bob at the Lutheran Student Center and was always active in the Lutheran churches in the communities she lived.  She played a leadership role at St Thomas in Bloomington IN.  She enjoyed Bible study and especially loved working in the nursery and being involved in Vacation Bible School. She was always someone who could be counted on to lend a hand.  No meal could start until we said or sang the blessing – Johnny Appleseed being her favorite. Her favorite songs & verses are included below: Oh the Lord is good to me, and so I thank the Lord, for giving me, the things I need, the sun and the rain and the apple seed.  The Lord is good to me, Amen, Amen, Amen, Amen, Amen, A—MEN! (feel free to do the hand motions while you sing) This little light of mine, I’m going to let it shine, This little light of mine, I’m going to let it shine.  This little light of mine, I’m going to let it shine, Let it Shine, Let it shine, Let in Shine.  (and she did shine) Psalm 22:21b-22 – From the horns of the wild oxen you have rescued me.  I will tell of your name to my brothers and sisters, in the midst of the congregation I will praise you; Psalm 92:12-15 The righteous flourish like the palm tree, and grow like a cedar in Lebanon.  They are planted in the house of the Lord; they flourish in the courts of our God.  In old age they still produce fruit; they are always green and full of sap, showing that the Lord is upright; he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him. Jane was never known to sit still and had to keep busy. Whether it was crocheting while playing cards or washing dishes after cooking a meal, she wanted to be part of the party. A favorite day for Jane would be cheering on the Chicago Cubs, eating a hot dog or perhaps a PB&J sandwich. And of course ice cream!  She was known for her mashed potatoes and her laugh! She loved reading mysteries and watching mystery shows/movies as well as hospital drama shows. There probably wasn’t a musical that she hadn’t watched. She loved music – whether watching others perform or singing and dancing herself. She deeply treasured her dear friends of the Oak Park Musical Theatre group (OPMT). She was a brownie/girl scout leader when her daughters were young and volunteered at their schools. She was always active in the lives of her children and grandchildren and was very proud to be a Mom and Grandma. Many besides her own grandchildren lovingly called her Grandma. She made it a point to always stay in touch with all her nieces and nephews and other relatives. Again, staying in touch with family was very important to her.  She loved to give gifts at birthdays and at Christmas….trees are adorned with all the ornaments that she gifted. She loved to travel, mainly camping with her family. She traveled to all states in US, Caribbean islands, Europe, Israel and many trips to Canada to visit with the Shields family. She loved to visit friends and family as she and Bob traveled. Jane is survived by her five children, Cynthia Warner and Rick Deshone of Marysville, OH, Wayne Warner and his wife, Eileen of Grand Junction, CO, Valarie Remmers and her husband Dale of Plano, TX, Marjorie Dorr and her husband Len of Austin, TX and Natalie Beglen and her husband Greg of La Grange IL. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren:  Matthew (Emily) Warner, Joseph Warner, Margaret (Jesse) Cox, Peter Warner, Theresa Warner, Monica Remmers (Jon Plant), Remy Remmers, Ben Dorr, Alex Dorr, Kevin Beglen and Sarah Beglen; 2 great-grandchildren: Camden Cox, Aria Cox, many nieces and nephews; and her twin sister Jean Etter and brother Doug (Joann) McArthur.  She also brought the Heads (Julie, Bill, Betsy, Billy, and Katie) into our family. In addition to her husband Bob, she was also preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Carol, Sharon and Shirley, and her brothers Frank and Harold. If you wish to honor Jane, memories can be made to your favorite charity …or cheer on the Cubs to their next World Series while eating hot dogs and ice cream. Other suggestions would be to the Alzheimer’s Association, St. Thomas Lutheran Church (3800 E 3rd St, Bloomington, IN 47401) or King of Glory Lutheran Church (6411 Lyndon B Johnson Fwy, Dallas, TX 75240)   Please leave the family condolences and share memories on this website.

I was always amazed by Jane’e energy. Even when she was going through chemo treatments she insisted that she had to go on a snow showing trip out East. She was an amazing person and missed by many St. Thomas members.

"Nothing prepares you for the grief you go through when losing a child. I called this funeral home at 2:00 am broken and could barely talk. The amount of compassion and empathy they showed me immediately let me know I found the right place to cremate my son. I cannot thank them enough for their professionalism, SINCERE concern, and commitment to making sure my son was honored in the most respectful way. I hope this Funeral home values her as much as my family and I do."

"I can’t say enough about how helpful and professional Dusty Martin, the funeral director at the Aria Cremation location on NW Highway has been. From my initial call, he was kind and informative. My friend died at home while on hospice and she was picked up in about an hour after receiving the call from the hospice nurse. The person who arrived to pick her up was also very professional/respectful and allowed us to take as much time with her as we wished. When I met with Dusty the next day about arrangements, he explained the process and options available without being pushy or trying to “sell” extras. Throughout the process, he kept me informed and, for example, was careful to be certain I understood the cost of the obituary I wanted and offered some options for reducing that cost if I wished. When I stopped by for another reason and started talking about some of the problems I was having with the pictures and media I hoped to use at a memorial lunch I was planning, he not only listened patiently but offered technology advice and let me use his personal media player. I have had experience arranging cremations for four others using two other local companies, and this experience with Dusty at Aria has been by far the best one I have had."

"My Daddy’s service and our family experience at Aria Northwest Highway was truly blessed. Funeral Director Dustin Martin is the kind of person that you would like to see on a more regular basis – but in his industry – you hope to not see him that often. That being said – THANK YOU DUSTIN for your unending kindness, compassion and friendship through the process. Meeting you and discussing Dallas History, Find A Grave and my Dad’s lifelong contributions to the great City of Dallas was simply wonderful! In memory of my dad James A. Dodd, Sr. – I want to personally thank you and let you know that you made everything better in that moment. Your calling to “Be There” is spot on. Aria has a one in a million guy in you! Bling Blinky of TEXAS Shout Out: God Bless You!!"
