Jane H. Carter passed away Friday, October 30th, 2020 at the age of 99. At the time of her passing, Jane was a resident of Wyndham Court Assisted Living in Plano, TX. Prior to her move to Wyndham Court, Jane was a long-time resident of Dallas, Texas.
Jane was born Jane Elinor Hershey on September 25, 1921 in Rockville Centre, New York to William Buller and Idabel Terry Hershey. Jane grew up in Rockville Centre and attended South Side High School, Syracuse University and Hefley Business School. Some of her fondest memories were family trips to swim at Jones Beach on Long Island. Throughout her life Jane was an avid swimmer. In 1943 Jane moved to Corpus Christi TX and worked for the Humble Pipe Line Company. While in Corpus Christi she married and had a son, Charles E. (Eddy) Carter. In 1946 Jane moved to Dallas and a few years later began her career with the Federal Government. Jane started with the U.S. Civil Service Commission, later transferring to the Internal Revenue Service from which she retired in 1984 after 34 years of service. In retirement, her passion was gardening, and she always maintained the most beautiful flowerbeds at her Dallas home of over 60 years. She was active in her Sunday School class and exercise class at Lovers Lane UMC. She was a member of the Serendipity Social Club, enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family and friends.
Jane was the youngest of four children. She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Elizabeth Hershey Royer, William Buller Hershey II and Anne Hershey Houy.
Jane is survived by her son Charles E. (Eddy) Carter and wife Brenda of Gordonville TX; grandchildren Rodney Carter and wife Sharon of Midlothian TX and Amy Wilburn and husband Jack of Prosper TX; great-grandchildren Kamber Carter of Plano TX, Caroline Wilburn and Carter Wilburn of Prosper TX, McKensie LaFevre and husband Phillip of College Station TX and Logan Daugherty of Corpus Christi TX; great-great-grandson Atticus Bryant of Plano TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Inurnment services will take place on November 15, 2020 at 3:00 PM in the Shepherd’s Garden at Lovers Lane United Methodist Church. Services will be officiated by Reverend Walt Lunde.
