Archer, Valenda Kay (Virgin)
Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of Valenda Kay Archer (known as Nana to friends and family) announces her passing on November 3, 2020 at the age of 78. Born in Abilene, Texas on August 6, 1942, she spent much of her childhood in Albuquerque, New Mexico where she met her late husband, Jim. Valenda and Jim were married 54 years and raised their family in Garland and Richardson, Texas. Valenda was a wordsmith and musician. She studied at Richland College, University of New Mexico and University of Texas at Arlington where she earned her degree in Journalism. She retired as Dean of Public Information from Richland College in 2003. Since retiring, Valenda spent her time enjoying her grandchildren’s activities, entertaining friends and family at her home, and sharing thoughts and music on social media. Her last entry on her Facebook page was on the anniversary of her husband’s passing. For the public, she wrote, “Three years. Less sharp. Still painful. Fewer tsunamis More contemplation. Some smiles. A few downright giggles. RIP Jimie Dean Archer In my heart forever.” And to her children: “One step at a time dears. Whatever pace you need. Keep going. Keep loving. Keep smiling. This too will pass. You both are my blessings.” Valenda is survived by her daughters Lisa and husband Jim Coppinger of Plano, TX, Kate and husband Andrew Kirby of Big Sandy, TX; grandchildren Michael, Christopher and Katie; sister Kathy of Richarson, TX; brother Larry of Omaha, NE and many extended family members. Her husband Jim, mother Kathryn, aunt Mardell and father Larry precede her in death. A memorial gathering will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to your favorite charity. Please leave the family condolences and share memories on this website.
