COLLUM, BRENDA J.
Obituary
Brenda Jeane Collum (Jeane), 76, of Grand Prairie, Texas, passed away on November 24, 2020. A private service will be held on December 7, 2020 at the DFW National Cemetery. Jeane was born in Sweetwater, Texas where she graduated from Sweetwater High School. After she married Doug Collum in 1965, she continued her education and received her B.A from Dallas Baptist University. Jeane went on to teach in both Dallas and Grand Prairie. She spent most of her career teaching in the Grand Prairie School District. She loved all her students as if they were her own and was never happier than when she could help a student with something they had been struggling with. Jeane had an unshakeable belief that you (yes, even/especially you) could be anything you wanted to be if you were willing to work for it and she drilled that belief into her children, both biological and student. After retirement, that passion for teaching was directed to her grandchildren, all of whom she taught to read, and she delighted in their every achievement. Jeane is survived by her husband, Doug; children Cindy McSpadden (Cameron), Katy White (Jack) and Liz Collum; grandchildren Eva White, Hannah White and Corey McSpadden; brother, Steve Stephens; sister, Cle Butler, and many other family and friends. Jeane is preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Opal Stephens, sister-in-law Carol Stephens, and brother-in-law James Butler. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to Reading Partners of North Texas (readingpartners.org/location/north-texas) or The Parkinson’s Foundation (Parkinson.org).
