Patton, Bobby Joe

After a hard fought battle with Skin Cancer, Bobby Joe Patton passed away on December13,2020 while in the care of Remarkable Healthcare of Fort Worth at the age of 86. Bob, as he was preferred to be called, was born on August11,1934 at his home in Tyler, Texas to parents Joseph Burton Patton and Lizzie pearl Weeks, who predeceased him. He grew p in Dallas, Tx on Hill Avenue in a loving home with 2 sisters and 1 brother. Bob joined the Marine Corps on August10,1953, a day before his 19th birthday, and served Active Duty until July22,1955. He was deployed to Korea during the Korean War and was honorably discharged on August9,1961 as a Private First Class. He did not like to talk about his time there, but still remembered how to say certain Korean words and phrases. Once a Marine, always a Marine as the motto goes. he was married to Patricia Ann Mullins on April7,1956 in Dallas, Tx. They settled in Irving, Tx where they raised nine children and were married for 17 years until March25, 1974. He worked at Purex doing Facility Maintenance on all of their machinery during this time. After his divorce, BOB soon met his domestic partner, Joann Pearl Kiddon Lagasse, and they lived together for 22 years in Dallas, Tx until her death in 1998. At this same time, he went into the family business of Wood Moulding and Wood Turning until around 1980 when industry improvements made his type of business obsolete. He continue his love for woodworking by making improvements on his home and creating wood toys for his grandchildren. Bob loved going out and dancing, honky tonkin’, as he would call it. He was known to move the coffee table in his living room to the side to create a dance floor and took turns dancing with everyone in the room. As he aged, he did less dancing and more listening to music. He had countless conversations with people about music of every kind and in his last days, it was one of the things he enjoyed most. Everyone should go honky-tonkin’ in memory of him! Bob loved Gumbo and Catfish and worked the Crossword Puzzle in the newspaper every day. He enjoyed watching TV, especially the Westerns. Many of his children can sing the theme songs to those shows from watching them with him. Keep Rollin’, Rollin’, Rollin’. Keep them dogies movin’! Rawhide! And, as we all know, he loved the Dallas Cowboys and Notre Dame. He loved football, and sports in general, and watched many games over the years with whomever would watch with him. He is survived by his nine children and spouses; Mark (Debby) Patton, Debbie Patton, Chris Patton, Sally Jones, Theresa Maynard, Barbara(Dean) Koecher, Bob(Stephanie) Patton, Kathy Belcoff, and Larry Patton; 30 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Barbara Payne and Patricia(Tissy) DeFord. He was preceded in death by his mother Jerry Patton, his nephew Eugene Payne, Jr, two grandchildren, Jake Jones and Brazos Gunta and one great-grandchild Zoe Ellis. The family would like to thank Remarkable Healthcare of Fort Worth for the great care he received there. He built up many new relationships there and treasured many of the staff members. We would like to especially thank Kim Wiskow and Melissa Higgins who , alongside his daughter Kathy, worked diligently and with loving care every day to help make the last 18 months of his life as comfortable and filled with love as was possible. He was very lucky to be at Remarkable where he had a daughter and people he considered as friends in his life every day. He had a professed that Kim was his best friend. He will be missed by one and all.
