Obituary

Valine Roberts Kuers Valine Roberts Kuers, age 89, passed away on Friday, Aug. 30, 2013, at her home in Mesquite, Texas. Valine was born on February 14, 1924 to the late Frank Roberts and Iva Kriete Roberts in Salina, Kansas. She grew up in Salina, where she was raised by her beloved Grandmother, Sophia Kriete. After graduating from High School in 1941, Valine moved to Texas, where she attended North Texas Agricultural College. During that time Valine learned to ice skate, performing with the Dallas Figure Skating Club in shows at the Fair Park Ice Arena.  She continued to enjoy skating into her 70’s. Valine worked for the Treasury Department’s Division of Disbursement during World War II, and then for Tool Supply in Dallas. In 1949, on Friday, May 13, she met her future husband, Marvin M. Kuers Sr., and they were married a year later on May 19, 1950. Valine and Marvin lived in Dallas until 1980, when they moved to College Station, Texas.  While in College Station, Valine attended Texas A&M University, and was proud to earn her Aggie ring. Family and friends were Valine’s joy. She loved to attend her children and grandchildren’s athletic competitions, dance recitals, and theatrical productions. Her pantry and freezer were always filled with her visitor’s favorite treats, and she delighted in listening to her family’s daily adventures. She loved reading books on her iPad, solving the Daily Jumble or Sudoku puzzles, dancing, learning to play the piano, playing Rummikub with friends at the Christian Care Center, creating astrological charts for family, staying up late, and traveling to new places. Amazingly active to age 89, Valine could still do pushups at age 88, and danced at her grandson’s wedding in July. She gave great hugs, had a wonderful smile, and loved to laugh. In addition to her late husband, Marvin Kuers Sr., Valine was preceded in death by her brother, F. Duane Roberts, her sister Lenadale Roberts White Werner, and her son Charles F. Kuers. Valine is survived by three children and their spouses: Marvin and Marianne Kuers, Karen Kuers and Steve Shaver, and John and Lisa Kuers; grandchildren: Christopher Kuers and his wife Tracey, Marisa Kuers Mailhes and her husband Trey Mailhes, Michael Kuers and his wife Nay, Daniel Shaver, Rachel Kuers, Zachary Kuers, and Jacob Kuers; great-grandchildren: Emma Kuers and Parker Kuers; and nephews, nieces, and dear friends. A Celebration of Life will be held for Valine at 3:00 pm, Friday, Sept. 13 at the East Dallas Christian Church, 629 N. Peak St., Reverend Deborah Morgan Stokes officiating. A reception will follow in the Church Parlor. The interment will occur at 10:00 am, Saturday Sept. 14, at the College Station Cemetery, College Station, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of ARIA Cremation Service and Funeral Home 10116 E. Northwest Highway, Dallas, Texas 75238 214-340-8008.

"Nothing prepares you for the grief you go through when losing a child. I called this funeral home at 2:00 am broken and could barely talk. The amount of compassion and empathy they showed me immediately let me know I found the right place to cremate my son. I cannot thank them enough for their professionalism, SINCERE concern, and commitment to making sure my son was honored in the most respectful way. I hope this Funeral home values her as much as my family and I do."

"I can’t say enough about how helpful and professional Dusty Martin, the funeral director at the Aria Cremation location on NW Highway has been. From my initial call, he was kind and informative. My friend died at home while on hospice and she was picked up in about an hour after receiving the call from the hospice nurse. The person who arrived to pick her up was also very professional/respectful and allowed us to take as much time with her as we wished. When I met with Dusty the next day about arrangements, he explained the process and options available without being pushy or trying to “sell” extras. Throughout the process, he kept me informed and, for example, was careful to be certain I understood the cost of the obituary I wanted and offered some options for reducing that cost if I wished. When I stopped by for another reason and started talking about some of the problems I was having with the pictures and media I hoped to use at a memorial lunch I was planning, he not only listened patiently but offered technology advice and let me use his personal media player. I have had experience arranging cremations for four others using two other local companies, and this experience with Dusty at Aria has been by far the best one I have had."

"My Daddy’s service and our family experience at Aria Northwest Highway was truly blessed. Funeral Director Dustin Martin is the kind of person that you would like to see on a more regular basis – but in his industry – you hope to not see him that often. That being said – THANK YOU DUSTIN for your unending kindness, compassion and friendship through the process. Meeting you and discussing Dallas History, Find A Grave and my Dad’s lifelong contributions to the great City of Dallas was simply wonderful! In memory of my dad James A. Dodd, Sr. – I want to personally thank you and let you know that you made everything better in that moment. Your calling to “Be There” is spot on. Aria has a one in a million guy in you! Bling Blinky of TEXAS Shout Out: God Bless You!!"
