Obituary
Ken Hammel went home to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, September 20, 2013 at age 83. He was born March 28, 1930 in Seven Mile, Ohio, to LeRoy and Elsa Hammel, and spent his childhood growing up on their family farm. Ken earned a Bachelors of Science Degree from Bowling Green College and received a Masters in Counseling from Xavier University. In 1952, Ken was united in holy matrimony to Jeannine Hammel, and they celebrated 61 years of marriage this year. He served in the United States Army from 1952-1954. He spent 50 plus years working happily in the Ohio educational school system as a teaches, principal and school counselor. Following his retirement, he relocated to Dallas, TX. As a resident of the Tradition Retirement Center, he helped to lead four weekly Conversation Groups with up to 80 people. Ken volunteered as a Love Helper Greeter at the Dallas Love Field Airport because he loved meeting people. Ken loved people, creating art work, and collecting unique animal art pieces. He was an active, faithful member of Lovers Lane United Methodist Church where he attended the Crosswalk Worship service weekly. He was an incredible inspiration to many people- young and old alike. Ken was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his lovely wife, Jeannine Hammel, two daughters, Holly Dillon and husband, Tom; and Shelley Hammel; his sister, Mary Louise Prows; and two grandsons, Eric and Matthew Dillon. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, September 25, 2013, 11:00 a.m. at Lovers Lane United Methodist Church, Asbury Hall, 9200 Inwood Rd, Dallas, TX. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Crosswalk Ministry at Lovers Lane UMC.
