Burnett, James "Mike"

December 21, 1935 - October 30, 2013

James Michael Burnett, Sr. began life’s most fulfilling adventure when he went to be with the Lord on October 30th 2013. “Big Mike”, as he was known by all, was born on December 21st 1935 in Memphis, Tennessee and graduated from Treadwell high School in 1953. He served his country in the United States Air Force and spent over 30 years with the National Weather Service. His greatest loves were his wife’s cooking, golf, and his signature hugs. As co-founder of the world renowned “Noon Game”, he was the first member of the Stonebridge Ranch Country Club to have a golf tournament named in his honor; The Big Mike Open. He retired from golf in 2009. All will remember his tenacity, resilience and class when facing adversity, as was shown in his final battle. His memory will be cherished by his wife, Nancy, his sons, Michael and David, his daughter-in-law, Esther, his miracle seven year old granddaughter (born 1 lb, 1 oz), Kuuipo, and his stepson, Tom Kirkpatrick. Per his request, his ashes will be returned to his beloved Maui.

And so, from the hundreds of individuals who were blessed to be Mike’s friends, “Aloha, Big Mike, enjoy the journey, the last hug is on us. A hui kaua.”

A hui kaua is Hawaiian for “Until we meet again”.

They basically took care of our needs during this time. They contacted DFW National Cemetery for us which made it a smooth experience. Definitely will use them again.
