Obituary
Viola Rooth was born on July 6, 1917 in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. She passed away on December 5, 2013. She was a cum laude graduate from the University of New Hampshire, where she received a Cogswell honorary scholarship and belonged to Chi Omega and Phi Kappa Phi honorary society. She received her master’s degree from East Texas State University. Viola retired from the Richardson school district after 30 years where she taught second and third grades and special education. She was named a life member of the Texas PTA. Viola was a Club Scout den mother, Brownie and Girl Scout leader, Sunday school teacher and superintendent and director of Christian education at Casa Linda Presbyterian Church. She was most recently a member of Highland Park Presbyterian Church. Viola will be remembered for her sense of humor and dry wit, behind the scenes pranks, devotion to her family and the hundreds of children whose lives she touched and her mastery of bridge. She is predeceased by her parents Ethel and John Marden, brother George Marden, and husband, Carl H. Rooth, the love of her life. She is survived by her daughter Linda Bass and husband Bob of Plano; son Richard Rooth and wife Donna of Lewisville; grandson David Goins and wife Mandi and great-grandson Ashton David Goins of McKinney; granddaughter, Kim Corey and husband Doug and great-granddaughter Cameron of Fishers, Indiana; granddaughter Breck England and husband Derek and great-granddaughter Jocelyn and great-grandson Grayson of Frisco; and granddaughter Blaire Beathard and husband Steven of Allen. At Viola’s request, there will be no service. Her family will gather to celebrate her life.
