Obituary

Edward Byers Creager of Plano, Texas entered heaven’s gates late January 4, 2014 from complications of Parkinson’s Disease and Lupus. He was born August 29, 1941 in Houston to parents Gail and E. B. Creager.  Ed grew up in Corpus Christi, graduating from W.B Ray High School in 1959.  Ed attended undergrad and law school at the University of Texas at Austin.  His aptitude and discipline yielded him a Bachelor of Business Administration (1963) and Doctor of Jurisprudence (1965).  He passed both the State Board of Law (1965) and the Texas State Board of Public Accounting (1968). Ed married Sandra K. Bridwell on August 31, 1962 in Austin.   They were blessed with a precious family and dear friends in each of the cities they called home, including Austin, Houston, Richardson, and Plano.  Ed was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.  He faithfully served as deacon and on several committees at Parkway Hills Baptist Church. He also served on board of the North Dallas-Park Cities chapter of Kiwanis International. He was an avid jogger until his health impeded him later in life.  Although Ed may be described as a quiet man, his actions spoke “love” loudly to all who knew him. Professionally, Ed took his first accounting job with Arthur Anderson in Houston.  In the early 1970s he moved his family to the Dallas area to take on the role as tax manager for  Alford Meroney & Co, where soon he became a partner in the firm.  He completed his professional career as a tax partner with TravisWolff.  Ed was a respected advisor and mentor to many. Ed is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sandra Bridwell Creager; son, Dr. Greg Creager and wife Yolanda; daughter, Becky Gaharan; three granddaughters, Olivia Creager, Lauren Gaharan, and Rachel Gaharan; three younger sisters JoBeth (Manfred) Walter, Linda (Edd) Price, and Cathy McDonald; and four nieces, one nephew, and their families. The family would like to thank all their precious friends that have supported them and especially Ed during his battle with Parkinson’s, including the “neighborhood” gang, Parkway Hills Baptist Church family, and Ed’s long time friend and accounting partner, Grady Rountree. Ed’s Celebration of Life service will be Friday, January 10th at 11am officiated by Pastor Sam Dennis at Parkway Hills Baptist Church, 2700 Dallas Parkway, Plano 75093.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Parkway Hills Baptist Church Building Fund. Arrangements are under the direction of ARIA Cremation Service and Funeral Home 19310 Preston Road Dallas, Texas 75252 214-306-6700

Sandra, my dear sweet friend of old…I want to give you and your Becky & Gregg & families all a big hug for I love you all dearly. Bill & I both know that there will be a hole in your hearts where your Ed held a most special place & in ours, as well. Ed was a quiet, gentleman’s gentleman, trustworthy, loyal, and he fiercely loved his family. Your years in Bellaire West in Houston were way too short but established a friendship that has stood the test of time & distance. Praise God for the life of Ed B. Creager.
    Our love, Barb & Bill

Sandra and Becky, we know the hurt of losing a loved one. But it is so rewarding to know that death has been defeated. That Ed lives in a place that we can once hope to be a part of some day.

"Nothing prepares you for the grief you go through when losing a child. I called this funeral home at 2:00 am broken and could barely talk. The amount of compassion and empathy they showed me immediately let me know I found the right place to cremate my son. I cannot thank them enough for their professionalism, SINCERE concern, and commitment to making sure my son was honored in the most respectful way. I hope this Funeral home values her as much as my family and I do."

"I can’t say enough about how helpful and professional Dusty Martin, the funeral director at the Aria Cremation location on NW Highway has been. From my initial call, he was kind and informative. My friend died at home while on hospice and she was picked up in about an hour after receiving the call from the hospice nurse. The person who arrived to pick her up was also very professional/respectful and allowed us to take as much time with her as we wished. When I met with Dusty the next day about arrangements, he explained the process and options available without being pushy or trying to “sell” extras. Throughout the process, he kept me informed and, for example, was careful to be certain I understood the cost of the obituary I wanted and offered some options for reducing that cost if I wished. When I stopped by for another reason and started talking about some of the problems I was having with the pictures and media I hoped to use at a memorial lunch I was planning, he not only listened patiently but offered technology advice and let me use his personal media player. I have had experience arranging cremations for four others using two other local companies, and this experience with Dusty at Aria has been by far the best one I have had."

"My Daddy’s service and our family experience at Aria Northwest Highway was truly blessed. Funeral Director Dustin Martin is the kind of person that you would like to see on a more regular basis – but in his industry – you hope to not see him that often. That being said – THANK YOU DUSTIN for your unending kindness, compassion and friendship through the process. Meeting you and discussing Dallas History, Find A Grave and my Dad’s lifelong contributions to the great City of Dallas was simply wonderful! In memory of my dad James A. Dodd, Sr. – I want to personally thank you and let you know that you made everything better in that moment. Your calling to “Be There” is spot on. Aria has a one in a million guy in you! Bling Blinky of TEXAS Shout Out: God Bless You!!"
