Smith, Edward H.
Obituary
Ed was born in Fort Worth, Texas and raised in Arlington. He died in Plano, Texas at Medical Center Plano from complications of diabetes and vascular issues. Having retired a couple of times he continued to work because it was fun. Even though he was on oxygen and had to use a scooter to travel around the workplace and around home, he enjoyed his life, family, work and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Constance Anna Kozar Smith, and his father, Harold Alonzo Smith, and several aunts and uncles. Ed is survived by his wife, Peggy; son Christopher Edward and grandson Aiden in Redmond, WA; and son Michael Andrew in Arlington, Texas and grandsons, Michael, Jr. and Zachery and step-granddaughter, Meagan and step-great granddaughter, Gracelynn Renae; and a twin brother, Robert Marion in Houston, Texas, and cousin, Lee Kozar in California. Ed lived in Texas in his early years attending Arlington High School and the University of Texas. He also went to Park College (now Park University) in Kansas City, Missouri where he met Peggy. From 1967-1987 he proudly served his country in the Navy and retired as a Chief Petty Officer ending his career on preferred sea duty in Dallas, Texas. Once retired, he moved into the civilian world but continued his career working on programs for both Texas Instruments and Raytheon. He then joined EMSolutions, continuing to work on different programs and becoming the Director of Dallas Operations for his company until his death. Diversifying beyond career and family obligations, Ed and Peggy owned and operated Mohawk Acre Poodles raising, training and showing black standard poodles in confirmation and obedience. They also established ComputerSmiths, a company which built computers in the early days of motherboard assembly. Such early training for the boys put them into successful computer careers. They also owned and operated Pegasus Arabian Farm breeding, training and showing the finest Arabians possible on a limited budget and through a very selective breeding program successfully produced a three year old that became an International Champion Working Cow Horse and selling another young Arabian to Mexico for International Endurance Competitions. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The American Diabetes Association or the American Cancer Association in Ed’s name.
