Obituary

Kenny A. Swanzy, of Oak Cliff, passed away peacefully on the morning of January 24, 2014.  He was 60 years old.  He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Kenneth and Alene Swanzy and his three brothers, Danny Swanzy, Brian Swanzy and Richard Swanzy. He is survived by son, Thomas R. Swanzy (Russell) and wife Jenny.  Son, Michael Swanzy and wife Gloria.  Niece Angela Swanzy and husband Larry Rogers.  Nephew Steven Swanzy wife Dolores and Nephews Chad Swanzy, Danny Swanzy and Phillip Swanzy.  Kenny had 8 grandchildren that he loved very much, Brittany, Chelse, Clarissa, Christin, Jacob, Jayden, Allison, Madison Swanzy and a great grandson Ryan.  A day did not go by that he would not ask how all his babies are doing and that he loved them. Like his father before him, Kenny was a painter.  He had his own business for a some time and did all types of work in the DFW area. Russ and Mike got the chance to work with him a lot and learned some very valuable skills.  One thing Dad always said is that if we learn a trade we’ll always be able to make a living. Kenny lived most of his life in Oak Cliff, moving there from Tyler, TX in the early 1970’s.  Kenny graduated from Sunset High School in 1972.  He and his four brothers loved playing music from an early age.  Kenny and Danny were in a couple of bands together as teens and when Brian and Richard learned their instruments the four of them made a great band.  As they grew older and began their families they still played together every chance they could.  It was always exciting when we knew all four of them would be together to spend time and play music.  Granny and Pawpaw were their biggest fans…listening for hours even though it was “too loud” and not their type of music.  We remember countless times as kids that the house was full of family and friends as Kenny and his brothers played music for hours. We have many friends and family members that are saddened by the loss of Kenny.  But those of us who knew him best would know he would not want us to mourn.  Instead, he would want us to be together as a family, have some food and some beers and relive good times together. True to his spirit, instead of a funeral there will be an open house type gathering for friends and family at Mike Swanzy’s home on Friday, January 31st from 6-8pm. Feel free to contact us at mike.swanzy@verizon.net or russswanzy72@gmail.com or find us on social media. Arrangements are under the direction of ARIA Cremation Service and Funeral Home 19310 Preston Road Dallas, Texas 75252 214-306-6700

Mike, Russ, We have always been a close Family! Your Dad was my Dad and my Dad was yours! I have never looked to either one of you as a cousin but as my Brothers and I share your pain and your loss! We are stronger together and I cannot wait for all of us to be under the same roof again. We will Remember and Celebrate his life the way the Swanzy’s do it! That is who we are! Food, Music and a cold one! I love you both and I pray God will help you deal with this sudden loss and also the recent loss of your Mother! If you need me for anything, I am always here for both of you!

"Nothing prepares you for the grief you go through when losing a child. I called this funeral home at 2:00 am broken and could barely talk. The amount of compassion and empathy they showed me immediately let me know I found the right place to cremate my son. I cannot thank them enough for their professionalism, SINCERE concern, and commitment to making sure my son was honored in the most respectful way. I hope this Funeral home values her as much as my family and I do."

"I can’t say enough about how helpful and professional Dusty Martin, the funeral director at the Aria Cremation location on NW Highway has been. From my initial call, he was kind and informative. My friend died at home while on hospice and she was picked up in about an hour after receiving the call from the hospice nurse. The person who arrived to pick her up was also very professional/respectful and allowed us to take as much time with her as we wished. When I met with Dusty the next day about arrangements, he explained the process and options available without being pushy or trying to “sell” extras. Throughout the process, he kept me informed and, for example, was careful to be certain I understood the cost of the obituary I wanted and offered some options for reducing that cost if I wished. When I stopped by for another reason and started talking about some of the problems I was having with the pictures and media I hoped to use at a memorial lunch I was planning, he not only listened patiently but offered technology advice and let me use his personal media player. I have had experience arranging cremations for four others using two other local companies, and this experience with Dusty at Aria has been by far the best one I have had."

"My Daddy’s service and our family experience at Aria Northwest Highway was truly blessed. Funeral Director Dustin Martin is the kind of person that you would like to see on a more regular basis – but in his industry – you hope to not see him that often. That being said – THANK YOU DUSTIN for your unending kindness, compassion and friendship through the process. Meeting you and discussing Dallas History, Find A Grave and my Dad’s lifelong contributions to the great City of Dallas was simply wonderful! In memory of my dad James A. Dodd, Sr. – I want to personally thank you and let you know that you made everything better in that moment. Your calling to “Be There” is spot on. Aria has a one in a million guy in you! Bling Blinky of TEXAS Shout Out: God Bless You!!"
