I met Barbara while working at Dawson State Jail. We continued to talk & meet even after the jail closed. I will really miss her.
We have looked a long time for you Aunt Bobbie. Wish we could have found you before this. We would love to hear from anyone who knew her. God Bless you Auntie Bobbie.
Just like Susan said, we have looked for and thought about Aunt Bobbie over the years and wondered where she might be. Funny how families can separate over the years. If anyone knows information about how she spent her last years/months we would love to hear about them. mkaamiller@yahoo.com
God Bless her and those who touched her life.
Barbara Ann was my 2nd cousin & a favorite of my mom, Dorothy Koss Leininger. I just learned of Bobbie’s passing today. My memories of her surround the letters she would send my mom while serving in the Peace Corp. She brought back a paperback that had been through a typhoon. As a child this was so exciting, especially since she loaned the book to me so I could take it for show and tell. Can’t remember the title but I can still recall the damp smell & waterlogged condition. Bobbie’s adventurous spirit and pursuit of higher education deeply impressed me & I have thought of her often over the years. thesams77@gmail.com
I was one of Barbara’s two friends the last few years of her life. We met when I began teaching at the Dawson State Jail in 2002 where she taught Life Skills to inmates from 2001-2013, at which time the jail was closed. I actually held her medical power of attorney and made her end of life decisions. She did not seem to suffer after having a massive stroke from which she died four days later. Her other friend Kathy, and I both spent a lot of time with her at the hospital, then finally at the hospice center her last days. I found this memorial when looking to find where her Mother was buried, thinking I might scatter Barbara’s ashes at her Mother’s grave site. That is still my tentative plan, though her Mother’s grave being in Indiana while I live in Texas makes it a larger endeavor than I’d originally planned on. Anyone is welcome to email me and I will try to answer any questions you might have. Barbara was working part time at Target when she died and her co-workers hosted a very sweet and respectful pot-luck luncheon in her honor. Kathy and I attended as her ‘family.’
