Gallimore, Max

January 12, 1953 - February 4, 2014

Max Edward Gallimore died at his home in Dallas, Texas on Tuesday, February 4, 2014. He was 61 years old. Max was born in Knoxville, Tennessee on January 12, 1953. He grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana and later St. Augustine, Florida. He attended the Indiana School for the Deaf and graduated from the Florida School for the Deaf and Blind.  As a former Gallaudet University student (1975), he earned his graduate degree In Deaf Education from Ball State University, Muncie, Indiana.

Max enjoyed a career in academia. He loved to travel, read, collect rarities, and play chess. Friends and family knew him as a jack-of-all-trades and a gentleman with a brilliant memory. “Maverick” was the description he was most comfortable with. He loved the Western rodeos. He enjoyed writing poems and short stories. Those he loved, he loved abidingly.

Max is survived by his children: Jed Gallimore in San Diego, CA; Rosa Lee Timm in Fremont, CA; and Frank Gallimore in Seattle, WA–as well as four grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Ron Gallimore in St. Augustine, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Willena Gallimore. Previously, Max was married to Laurene Simms, Washington, DC.

Services to celebrate his life will be held in St. Augustine, Florida in April. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions in his name be made to the American Diabetes Fund.
