Obituary

Paul Howard Gornstein, born August 14, 1951 in Brooklyn, New York, passed February 6, 2014. My name is Paul Howard Gornstein and I am and will be 62 years young forever!  As of February 6, 2014 it will be a little hard to get hold of me.  If you need anything in my absence feel free to contact the War Department, aka, the love of my life, Karen.  My Dear Darling Daughter, Ryan, is in Dallas who gave me the only grandson I will ever know, Niles, who lives with his dad Jamie (my third son).  My two sons, Casey and Ty, who have an uncanny sense of whenever I needed them, surely will be there for my family and friends as well.  Casey is in Carrollton and Ty and his wife Kelli are in Lewisville. My sister Ronnie lives on Long Island with her husband Fred.  No sister ever loved a brother as much as she loves me.  Her two daughters, Michelle and Amy, have always been my first kids, the ones I trained on and gave me valuable experience as well as all the love and affection any uncle could ever hope for.  Michelle lives in Tampa with her wonderful husband Mike and my adorable nephews Jackson and Noah.  Amy lives in Long Beach with her dog Daisy who I terrorized last summer to be sure she would remember me as well. A lot of you may not know I have 3 degrees.  Yea, weird right?  I was also on the dean’s list in graduate school.   As you know, I am and have always been a golfer and even won 2 club championships at Lido Beach.  I have two hole-in-ones; one of which I got on a wedding anniversary.  I ran the NY Marathon in 1983 with my Uncle Billy and didn’t keel over.  Karen & I owned and operated a photography and video studio out of our home in NY.   I was a Real Estate Agent for a time, and my most recent career was in Web Development at Carraker.   I became addicted to walking nearly 4 miles a day trying to be skinnier than Cousin Alan.  Alan I won!   I continued my walking in the nursing homes but they couldn’t keep up with me. Friends will be received following the service to enjoy one of the greatest treasures in life, food.  Please feel free to join my family at Jamie’s house 11722 Bonham Ct., Frisco as they laugh and celebrate at all the crazy things I did and know I am watching the whole thing and laughing louder than all of you guys.  It ain’t over till it’s over so enjoy your life and give me lots to laugh at from wherever I am. Don’t forget that “Yugly” and as my last voicemail said, “Never call again!” Just a quick mention about the nasty disease Alzheimer’s that altered the full course of my expected life.  While it might have succeeded in slowing me down and causing quite a bit of havoc, it did not stop me from living!  I am proud of the studies I participated in and hope it helps my children and grandkids.  Please invest in our children and donate toward research at ALZ.ORG.  I wouldn’t wish this on anyone. Arrangements are under the direction of ARIA Cremation Service and Funeral Home 19310 Preston Road Dallas, Texas 75252 214-306-6700

It was a joy to know Paul, though only for a couple of years. He was friendly and boisterous, good-humored and loving to all of us in the Treasured Times program. He WAS a treasure! BINGO, Paul, you won again, and nothing in Heaven is sugar-free! You’ll be missed. Karen, thank you so much for sharing him with us.

    Dear perspicacious Paul,

Maybe it is not about quantity but quality. You were always charming and engaging as I recall the bat mitzvah, the bar mitzvahs, and Ryan’s wedding. Thinking of you and Karen together puts a smile on my face because I have not ever seen two people better matched, better suited, so perfect for each other.

    Until we meet again,

    Sue

What a honor to get to know Paul! Instead of Girls Just Want to Have Fun, it should have been named Paul Just Wants to Have Fun. A philosophy for us all to learn from.
Paul was one great guy who is missed at Treasured Times!
    Prayers for the entire family!

I teared up and at the same time smiled as I read about Paul. I didn’t know Paul nor the family or friends but want to convey my deepest condolences for your loss. Loosing someone you love in death can be a very hard thing to understand and difficult to cope with. I hope you find comfort in the God of comfort himself as he promises that he will be your strength and refuse as you face this distressing time. Ps 46:1

Paul and I were girlfriend and boyfriend when I was 18. He used to take me to watch him bowl, play golf, and I even sat in his classes just because I wanted to be around him no matter what he was doing.classes just to be around him..He definately was a man that saw the lemonade glass half full. I remember he was studying to be an English teacher but it seems that changed. All the bowling all the classes would of been boring but I would do anything to be around him. He taught me a lot about life even though he was only 4 years older then me.I waited too long to write. By the time I wrote Paul was already in the stages of not remembering me.I don’t know how or why we loose such a wonderful man so young he had this great big heart and he had so much more love to give.An honest wonderful man gone./ I just dont get it. its so sad.my condolences to the loved ones.he will be sorely missed. oh yeah he let me drive around delivering pizzas at Romas in Great Neck. Also fun because I was with him.

"Nothing prepares you for the grief you go through when losing a child. I called this funeral home at 2:00 am broken and could barely talk. The amount of compassion and empathy they showed me immediately let me know I found the right place to cremate my son. I cannot thank them enough for their professionalism, SINCERE concern, and commitment to making sure my son was honored in the most respectful way. I hope this Funeral home values her as much as my family and I do."

"I can’t say enough about how helpful and professional Dusty Martin, the funeral director at the Aria Cremation location on NW Highway has been. From my initial call, he was kind and informative. My friend died at home while on hospice and she was picked up in about an hour after receiving the call from the hospice nurse. The person who arrived to pick her up was also very professional/respectful and allowed us to take as much time with her as we wished. When I met with Dusty the next day about arrangements, he explained the process and options available without being pushy or trying to “sell” extras. Throughout the process, he kept me informed and, for example, was careful to be certain I understood the cost of the obituary I wanted and offered some options for reducing that cost if I wished. When I stopped by for another reason and started talking about some of the problems I was having with the pictures and media I hoped to use at a memorial lunch I was planning, he not only listened patiently but offered technology advice and let me use his personal media player. I have had experience arranging cremations for four others using two other local companies, and this experience with Dusty at Aria has been by far the best one I have had."

"My Daddy’s service and our family experience at Aria Northwest Highway was truly blessed. Funeral Director Dustin Martin is the kind of person that you would like to see on a more regular basis – but in his industry – you hope to not see him that often. That being said – THANK YOU DUSTIN for your unending kindness, compassion and friendship through the process. Meeting you and discussing Dallas History, Find A Grave and my Dad’s lifelong contributions to the great City of Dallas was simply wonderful! In memory of my dad James A. Dodd, Sr. – I want to personally thank you and let you know that you made everything better in that moment. Your calling to “Be There” is spot on. Aria has a one in a million guy in you! Bling Blinky of TEXAS Shout Out: God Bless You!!"
