We just learned of George’s passing. He was a dear friend and we will sorely miss him. For years, George and the Bluebonnet Playboys were the staple Friday night entertainers at our restaurant, Fishmongers Seafood Market and Grill on the Bluebonnet traffic circle in Fort Worth. They packed the place and over the years, we became dear, dear friends. We sure will miss you, George. Condolences to the family.
George Uptmor was a really nice man
and I had the pleasure of playing in bands with him on several occasions, beginning in 1966. Most recently, we were in San Marcos for
the 2009 Western Swing Festival.
I send my sincere condolences to his loved ones.
We had the pleasure of dancing and listening to George’s music when he came to the VFW in Seven Points. Prayers go out to the family. He was a great man.
I worked with George for years and really enjoyed his friendship and his talent. I know he will be missed by many.
Just learned of George’s passing. I worked for Chase Bank in Casa View and have waited on him for many years as well as you, Ruby. He will be missed by all. My prayers are with you and your family.
I was watching a tribute to Merle Haggard tonight which reminded me of George. I googled his name to see if I could find any recent info on him and was sad to read that he had passed just recently. Long story, but in the 90’s my husband and I frequented Shuck N Jive in Dallas because they had this great band called the Crawdaddies! We got to know the guys over many, many Friday nights spent eating crawfish & listening to their great music. George U. reminded me very much of my Dad, Sonny. One night I was telling him that and how my Dad played drums and it turns out they knew each other and were in a band together in the late 50’s in the Bryan/College Station area!!! What a small world! George was an incredible fiddle player and entertained us on so many nights! In fact we wanted to have the Crawdaddies play at our wedding reception but couldn’t work the date out. George would always play “Faded Love” for me, my all time favorite country song. Our deepest condolences go out to his family. Thank you so much for sharing that wonderful man with us.
