Hopkins, Mary L.
Obituary
Mary Louise Hopkins passed in peace from this life on March 7, 2014 in Dallas, Texas. She was preceded in death by her loving parents Robert F. and Mary H. Hopkins of Buffalo, New York, and her dear brother, the artist John H. Hopkins of Flagstaff, Arizona. Born in Buffalo on May 3, 1924, she was a proud alumna of the Buffalo Seminary and Wellesley College. Following college, Mary Lou opted to travel a path rarely taken by women of her era—embarking on a long and successful career as one of the first computer programmers in the country. Diminutive in physical stature, yet possessed of immense intelligence, drive, courage, strength of spirit and spunk, she was a pioneer among women in her chosen business field. She traveled extensively, visited all seven continents, was an active member of the Woman’s Day Alliance Group of Dallas and the Daughter of the American Revolution, and greatly enjoyed an occasional game of bridge. She will be missed by her dear friends everywhere, her supportive neighbors at the “Plaza” in Dallas, and her remaining distant family members. God Speed Mary Lou. A memorial gathering will take place from 1:00-3:00 P.M., Friday, April 4, 2014 at the Plaza at Edgemere. Arrangements are under the direction of ARIA Cremation Service and Funeral Home 19310 Preston Road Dallas, Texas 75252 214-306-6700
