Barber, Sue Chen
Obituary
Sue Chen Barber passed away on March 27, 2014, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Born in Taiwan on December 15, 1963, to parents Yi-Shung and Jane Chen, she was the loving wife of her devoted husband of 24 years, Scott A. Barber, and wonderful mother to two beautiful children, Brittany and Colton. Sue dearly loved her children, of whom she was enormously proud, and they will take her lessons of life, love, and her inspiration with them always. Sue was survived by her husband, children, parents, brother, Joe Chen M.D., brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, mother-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was also blessed to have many loyal and close friends whom she loved, and who supported her throughout her life. She graduated from J.J. Pearce High School and went on to obtain a BBA from Baylor University and later an MBA. She was always the technical expert to her family and friends and used her skills as a computer engineer during her working career at Mobil Oil and Frito Lay before becoming a stay at home mother. Sue loved volunteering at her children’s schools and never missed a chance to help where it was needed. She had a loving sense of humor and always brought a warm, intelligent and unique insight to every conversation. She traveled the world extensively with her family and friends and was always looking for a new adventure. She loved to fish, rarely failed to bring home the biggest catch, and enjoyed beating her friends at Mahjong. In lieu of flowers, Sue’s family asks that donations in her name be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center at www.mdanderson.org/giving/sep13b A memorial service will be held at St. Andrews United Methodist Church in Plano on Friday, April 4th 2014 at 2:00 pm. Arrangements are under the direction of: ARIA Cremation Service & Funeral Home 19310 Preston Road, Dallas, Texas 75252 214) 306-6700

Our hearts ache, and our thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this terrible time. Inga and David Brooks
Scott and family, my heart breaks for you. I only learned recently of Sue’s condition but if there’s anything I can do, please let me know. You were a rock for me when Daddy died.
I will always remember Sue for her beautiful smile. I am so sorry for you and your family, Scott, and I will keep you all in my prayers. I have memories that go back even before you and Sue were married. The tent at the Byron Nelson and you were dating each other! So young. I also have this memory of celebrating New Year’s Eve at some hotel with you all, Lin and Dan, and I remember Sue had her computer, and was working or checking in on work at Mobil Oil! She was so dedicated and I remember how happy she was when I was talking to you guys about Colten going to St. Marks. I am so glad and happy I had the opportunity to know Sue. She had the best and biggest smile, and was always calm and very happy.
So sorry for your loss. I will always remember Sue for her sunny optimism and bright smile. She died too young.
Scott, my sincere condolences to you and your family. You and your children and your entire family are in our thoughts and prayers. I will pray for strength for you during this difficult time.
Scott, please accept our deepest condolences. Sue was a beautiful and generous woman, and we know what a great wife and mother she was. Rob and Trish Hogue

Scott, Brittany, and Colton,
I am so sorry for your loss. Sue and I were Hightower parents – Sue with Brittany and me with Kevin. Then our kids went different ways, but we reconnected at Shepton. I always enjoyed catching up with Sue and her life whenever we saw each other-even if it wasn’t often we always had a lot to share. Sue was such a wonderful person. We will all miss her. May her memory by a blessing.
I’m so sorry to hear this sad news. I have not seen Sue in many years but knew her in college. She was a wonderful and sweet lady. My condolences to her friends and family.

Jane and Yi-Shung and Sue’s husband and children, we were so saddened to hear of your loss. We cannot imagine your hurt. Our prayers are for each of you. Jim and Jane Scott.
I will keep fond memories of Sue in my heart.
She was a great student and person. I know she is sorely missed. My thoughts are with all of you.
Dearest Scott, Brittany, and Colton,
There are just no words to express our deep sorrow and heartache of losing Sue. We will miss hearing her cheerful greeting of “Oh, hey!” and chatting with her about family or other topics such as the latest book that she has read. She was such a fun and loving person with a great spirit about life. We are so sorry that we are not there to attend Sue’s funeral but you and your family are in our hearts, thoughts, and prayers. Please let us know if there’s anything we can do.

Dear Scott and the entire Barber family, my deepest condolences. I did not have the pleasure of knowing Sue, but Sandra spoke so sweetly of her. For a mother in law to be so proud of a daughter in law and share that with fiends means she was an AWESOME wife, mother and daughter. We are lifting up prayers of peace and comfort for you all.
Sue was a warm-hearted, loving, positive person with a beautiful spirit. I’m so deeply saddened that she is no longer with us to brighten our lives. Scott, you, Brittany and Colton are in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Please let me know if I can do anything to help.
Words cannot express how much Sue and her joy of life will be missed.
I am so blessed to have known her as Sue was a kind, thoughtful, loving and generous friend.
I am praying for Scott, Brittany, Colton, her parents and brother.
