Smalley, Richard L.
Obituary
My father Richard Lee Smalley of DeSoto, Texas passed away on April 1, 2014 at the age of 65. He served in the United States Navy for almost a decade and he loved his country. If you looked in the dictionary under father and husband, you would see Richard Smalley. He was an amazing husband for 42 years and father for 37 years. He carried himself with high morals and integrity. He was born in a small town in Illinois. Some of his hobbies included sport shooting, fishing, history, aviation, and watching Dallas Stars hockey. He had that welcoming personality and sense of humor. He will be dearly missed. He is gone, but not forgotten. Remember to send the family condolences and sign the guest book on this site.

How do you say so many great things about someone in such a small space? Thank you so very much for all you have done for us. I could always count on good ol’ dad to be there and to keep us strong. I know the torch has been passed and I hope to make you proud. I love you dad and we miss you greatly.
Your Son,
Derek
To the Smalley Family, my thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. Although I did not know Richard, I do know Derek and I know that he was raised by great parents, because he has turned out to be such a great man and friend. May God give your heart comfort and strength to get through this time. God Bless.
Love,
Jen
I knew Richard for most of the time he worked for BSI and was honored to be his manager for a number of those years.
Richard was a hard worker, and would never turn down a chance to work on behalf of BSI, even if it meant significant travel. He was very loyal to BSI and was a model in his attitude and professionalism, which should through much positive feedback from his clients.
I am so glad to have known him, and will miss him for a very, very long time.
Thank you My Friend.
Jon
I am so sorry for your loss Richard was great man and he will be deeply missed.
Richard was a colleague of mine at BSI, and I had a chance to get to know him at several face-to-face trainings and through numerous phone calls and emails over the years. I didn’t know him all that well, but he was always soft spoken, thoughtful and all around nice guy. I will miss him.

My thoughts and prayers are with your family. I only had the pleasure of working with Richard a few times. He was always very kind and fun to work with. I learned a lot from him.
I worked with Richard for many years with BSI and always found him to be positive and willing to go the extra mile. Richard you will be missed.
I had the pleasure of working with Richard for several years and during those times I had the pleasure of meeting his wife as well as Derek. Richard told a lot of stories and each of them included his family members. May God bless your family in your time of need.

I had the opportunity to work with Rich on several audits down in Kansas City, MO. He was a pleasure to work with; professional, witty, and all-around good-natured. I am so sorry for your loss and know he will be missed, in the BSI family as well as his own! May God bless him and his family!
With sympathy,

To Richard’s Family and Friends,
I’ve know Richard for a great number of years as both a friend and my Notified Body Auditor. Those of us at device manufactures will miss Richard’s auditing approach and stories about his latest gun purchases. Richard and I enjoyed talking more about our gun hobby then we did requirements. I will truly miss those conversations. Richard’s wealth of knowledge about requirements always keep us vigilant. We will miss him greatly.
Derek, your Dad spoke very highly of both you and your Mom. Please ensure that she knows that we in industry feel a great loss without him.
Sincerely,
Richard Waite
From the RA/QA team at Vidacare, one of Richard’s clients, we wanted to share our sympathy to the family and acknowledge the wonderful working relationship we had with Richard. He became more than an auditor to us over the many years he visited our company. Richard was always professional and very personable. We feel a great loss. To the family we wanted to let you know what a positive impact he had on us professionally and on a personal level. We will certainly miss Richard’s annual visit on a personal level.
The entire Krypton Solutions staff would like to send our condolences to Richard’s family for their loss. We enjoyed working with Rich for the past two years and will miss his annual visits.
