Castelan, Lucero

June 11, 1956 - April 28, 2014

Luz Maria Castelan

Lucero Castelan, of Plano, Texas, passed away on April 28, 2014.  Lucero was born on June 11, 1956 in Mexico City, Mexico.  While studying abroad in Vancouver, Canada, she met the love of her life, Gregory Castelan, whom she would marry on March 17, 1978.  They had two wonderful children, Andrew and Jonathan, who she would do anything for and she often said they were the prides of her life.  As someone who loved her family and welcomed all new members with open arms, she greatly loved Natalie, Andrew’s wife, and Ginny, Jonathan’s fiancée, both of whom she referred to as the daughters she never had.  She was a very caring individual with a big heart who always looked for ways to help those in her life and made friends everywhere she went.  She was also a woman with an incredibly adventurous spirit who loved to travel and see the world with her family.  She will be remembered for her kind heart, loving smile, and generous nature.  Lucero is survived by her loving sons and devoted husband.

A private service will be held for Lucero’s immediate family.  In lieu of flowers, Lucero’s family requests donations be made in her name to the Dallas Food Bank or your favorite charity.

She loved us all unconditionally and will be very missed.

I remember the first day I met Lucero. I thought she was so pretty with her big brown eyes. I will miss talking with her & laughing with her!!!! I will always remember her generosity and great love for my brother & nephews!!!! She was a beautiful light with a caring spirit! Now she is my brothers and nephews “Angel” to watch over them! I am happy she was able to meet her boys loves of their lives! She was sooo adorable talking about Casper Andrew and Natalie’s dog! She sure loved him!!!!!

Teresa Weaver says:

Will always remember your three weddings!! You two are the most married couple I know! We had so many adventures over the past 36 years! Was thinking about the adorable first letter she sent you! Lucero was so loving. We had so many wonderful times at the El Torito when she first came to San Francisco. I remember how excited she was to be pregnant with Jonathan. How happy she was when he was born even if it took ten months. When Andrew was born she was over the moon!
Lucero loved her family with every fiber of her being!

Laura Murphy says:

I am so sorry for all you and the boys are going through. I remember writing Lucero letters when she was at Granny’s so I could try to practice my Spanish! I remember before your party Mom threw you so Lucero could meet your friends, she was singing into the mirror “You look good darling I don’t care”. She was so happy!

Cindy McCallum (Williamson) says:

My thoughts and prayers are with you Greg and your family. Even though it has been over 30 yrs since I have since you and Lucero, I do remember how much I liked her. Embrace your wonderful memories. Your boys should feel proud to have had her as their mother. Hugs.

Marie Brummitt says:

I lived at grannys when Lucero met Greg. I can remember her coming up to my room the day she met Greg and her telling me ‘I think I love him’. She was head over heels. I have a really great memory of Greg, Lucero, and I having a water fight in grannys kitchen. (do you remember that Greg?) Auntie Grace responded in her own special way – she was not happy with us!! A memory that brings a smile!!

I am so sorry to hear this news and so sorry that the world lost such an amazing person so soon. I worked with Lucero for 7 years and we had many adventures together traveling all over. She was always up for any adventure and we had so many good times together from museums and churches in Santa Fe to country bars in Chattanooga, and so many beaches where it was the only time I would see her kick off her fancy shoes to put her toes in the sand! She made every experience fun. I will miss her greatly.

Excellent customer service, they made you feel like you were their only customer. Very helpful and explained what we should expect during the process. They basically took care of our needs during this time. They contacted DFW National Cemetery for us which made it a smooth experience. Definitely will use them again.
