Obituary

Our beloved Julie (Gram) went to be with her Savior early Saturday morning, May 3, 2014. Julie changed the world on October 16, 1948 when she was born to  MargaretJo Winborn (deceased) and Walter Luke Winborn (deceased) in Dallas. After graduating North Dallas High School in 1967, Julie remained friends with school mates throughout her entire life. She briefly attended East Texas State University where she played on the tennis team. She then married and began to start her family. Following the death of her sister, Sandra Winborn Chabot, Julie realized her true calling, hospice. She then moved to San Antonio and worked to earn her RN from San Antonio College. While in San Antonio, she worked specializing in pediatric hospice. She served on many levels of the hospice community throughout Dallas, Texas and the entire United States in the ensuing years. Julie loved her work, if she ever called what she did for others “work.” Comforting her patients as well as those around her was her lifelong passion, her gift. It kept her motivated when fighting her own battle with cancer. Julie never failed to lend her hand to a person in need. Her kind heart has touched many and will be missed. Julie is survived by her daughter, Jerianne Elms and husband Jason Elms. Her son, Jeff Wallace and wife, Christi Wallace. Three grandchildren; Jacquelyn Maitland, 22, Christopher Mathis, 19 and Jeffrey Mathis, 17, kindred spirit, Mary Coleman and extended family and friends. Julie took life as it came at her. She never missed an opportunity to live, and to live fully. She spent the majority of her free time with her family and friends exploring the outdoors, attending musicals, reading on the beach, or just sitting around a table exchanging stories. Julie loved teaching and she loved learning about all different subjects. She made friends with everyone she came in contact with. Her heart and her arms were always open to welcome and embrace new relationships. She touched many lives and she will be greatly missed by all who had the opportunity to know her. A memorial service will be held for Julie at 12 p.m., Saturday, May 10, at Promise United Church of Christ. 2527 W. Colorado Blvd. Dallas, Texas 75211  In lieu of flowers, Julie requested that donations be made to VITAS Hospice at www.vitas.com or the hospice of your choice in your community.

I grew up on Maple Springs and knew Julie for as long as I can remember. When my dad was dying of cancer in 2007, it was Julie that was there as a hospice care giver. Since my parents knew her and her family, it made my fathers last days so much easier. Laughing and visiting with her was a highlight. I will always be grateful to her and her compassion and caregiving to him. Sadly, we will not be able to attend the funeral because we will be celebrating Mother’s Day at our home at noon on Saturday so our daughter-in-laws can have Sunday with their mothers. Mom and I will miss going.

Loved to have Julie in our dental office for many years, always had a smile and a story even when she was feeling bad. She was a joy to know. Maybe she will meet my cousin, Judy, who was also a nurse, as she went to heaven on May 4th. Blessings to her family, Donna Turner

Julie was one of the sweetest, gentlest spirits that I have ever known. She had a wonderful smile and long, strong hugs. I never heard her say an unkind word about anyone. We shared so many good times and I will miss those trips that we shared. I have wonderful memories of her. I will miss her so much and I dearly loved her.
I am praying for all of her family.

I was fortunate to have met Julie in San Antonio. You felt close to her within 5 minutes. Her home was always open to friends and we were pretty much always there when weren’t going ti the Riverwalk for cheesecake, Taco Cabana for margaritas, camping, festivals…
the list goes on. She helped so many in her career, including my family when my mother needed hospice. Julie took us all by the hand and guided us through the emotional steps to make mom comfortable. We are forever grateful.
I will miss you, my sweet friend. Give Mom a hug and kiss for me.
    Love,
    Dee

"Nothing prepares you for the grief you go through when losing a child. I called this funeral home at 2:00 am broken and could barely talk. The amount of compassion and empathy they showed me immediately let me know I found the right place to cremate my son. I cannot thank them enough for their professionalism, SINCERE concern, and commitment to making sure my son was honored in the most respectful way. I hope this Funeral home values her as much as my family and I do."

"I can’t say enough about how helpful and professional Dusty Martin, the funeral director at the Aria Cremation location on NW Highway has been. From my initial call, he was kind and informative. My friend died at home while on hospice and she was picked up in about an hour after receiving the call from the hospice nurse. The person who arrived to pick her up was also very professional/respectful and allowed us to take as much time with her as we wished. When I met with Dusty the next day about arrangements, he explained the process and options available without being pushy or trying to “sell” extras. Throughout the process, he kept me informed and, for example, was careful to be certain I understood the cost of the obituary I wanted and offered some options for reducing that cost if I wished. When I stopped by for another reason and started talking about some of the problems I was having with the pictures and media I hoped to use at a memorial lunch I was planning, he not only listened patiently but offered technology advice and let me use his personal media player. I have had experience arranging cremations for four others using two other local companies, and this experience with Dusty at Aria has been by far the best one I have had."

"My Daddy’s service and our family experience at Aria Northwest Highway was truly blessed. Funeral Director Dustin Martin is the kind of person that you would like to see on a more regular basis – but in his industry – you hope to not see him that often. That being said – THANK YOU DUSTIN for your unending kindness, compassion and friendship through the process. Meeting you and discussing Dallas History, Find A Grave and my Dad’s lifelong contributions to the great City of Dallas was simply wonderful! In memory of my dad James A. Dodd, Sr. – I want to personally thank you and let you know that you made everything better in that moment. Your calling to “Be There” is spot on. Aria has a one in a million guy in you! Bling Blinky of TEXAS Shout Out: God Bless You!!"
