Webb, James "Jim"
Obituary
Webb, James Kent May 22, 1951 – May 23, 2014 A dear husband, father, brother, friend, confidante, and counselor returned to his beloved Creator on May 23, 2014. In his own quiet, solid way Jim loved people and never met a stranger. His greatest joys were encouraging others and fostering community. He was a life-long student and voracious reader, a sailor and, most importantly to him, a man of a deep and disciplined faith. After graduating from Lake Highlands High School in 1969 and Southern Methodist University in 1973, his careers in public relations and then banking led him to Boston, St. Louis, New York City, and Los Angeles. He received his Master of Business Administration from Pepperdine University in 1981. In 1984, he returned to Dallas to be near his parents, William Calvin Webb and Helen Grabowski Webb, both of whom predecease him. In 1995 he left banking to attend Perkins School of Theology, receiving a Master of Theological Studies in 1997. That same year, he began a career as a financial advisor. Jim combined his extensive background in finance with his desire to serve in the creation of the family firm, Webb Financial LLC. In 2006, Jim was ordained a Deacon in the Episcopal Church. Bi-vocational, Jim was devoted to his parish, Saint Michael and All Angels. Jim also served as Archdeacon of the Diocese of Dallas from 2010 to 2013, leaving only to focus on “The Gathering,” a church without walls for the homeless in downtown Dallas that Jim conceived and established. Jim leaves behind his beloved wife of 26 years, Connie Strickland Webb, and their two daughters, Caroline Marie Webb and Jacqueline Kathleen (Katie) Webb (Dallas, TX). Jim couldn’t have been more proud of his family and his “girls.” He cherished his time with family and was its stalwart protector and loving encourager. Jim is also survived by his brother William Webb, his sister Monica Webb, his nephew Christopher Webb (Los Angeles, CA), and his niece Natalie Webb (Addis Ababa, Ethiopia), and dear family friend Polly Gessell (Dallas, TX).
A memorial service and celebration of Jim’s life will be held May 30, 2014 at 4:00 pm at Saint Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church at 8011 Douglas, Dallas, TX 75225. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the ministries of Monasteries of the Heart, 345 East 9th Street, Erie, PA 16503, whose message of service, awareness, inclusion, and love informed, delighted, and guided Jim in his later years, or, The Gathering, c/o Episcopal Diocese of Dallas, 1630 N Garrett Ave Dallas, TX 75206.
