King, Lucille Bailey
Obituary
Lucille Bailey King passed away Sunday, July 13 2014, at the age of 98. She goes now to join Roma, her husband of 67 years. She is survived by three children, four grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter.
Lucille had a lifelong interest in the dramatic arts , and was active in numerous productions during her student years at Miami of Ohio and The University of Michigan, where she earned her Master’s degree. She and Roma met in Ann Arbor and were married in a military ceremony during the early days of World War II. While Roma served in the Philippines Lucille worked for the Army at Fort Monmouth where she helped in the production of radio segments aimed at maintaining the morale of American citizens.
Lucille always put others first. She set aside her own professional ambitions and her doctoral studies to provide support to Roma in his own distinguished career, and later to provide a loving home for their three children. She continued to pursue her love of the theater by appearing in plays and performing in church musical events. She had a passion for nature and wildlife which she passed on to her children, and a fondness for well-crafted English mystery novels. She was a gourmet cook, an avid gardener, and did exquisite needlework. She and Roma were an inseparable team as they shared the road of their lifelong journey together.
Lucille’s grace, elegance, and kind spirit will be greatly missed by her family, and by all who knew her. She goes now to a well-deserved rest, and to be reunited one final time with Roma and the other loved ones who preceded her. May she rest in peace, and may she be carried in their hearts forever by all who knew and loved her.
Memorial service with interment will be held Thursday, July 24, 2014, 10:30 am at St. Matthews Cathedral, 5100 Ross Ave. Dallas, TX.
