McMahan, David “Dave” C.
Obituary
Our beloved father, friend and soul mate, David “Mac” McMahan 10.14.42, left us for the serenity of Heaven on 08.02.14. Just before the stroke that commenced what would be the last hours of his vibrant life, he was doing what he did best: laughing and making everyone around him laugh. His daughters Lisa and Joanna, and fiancé Jana, were by his side blessed with the chance to hold his hand throughout his courageous journey to the next phase of everlasting life.
Born and raised in Garland, TX, David was a boy with an imagination as big as the state. He looked for adventure at every turn and had a knack for finding it, or creating it. Little did he know that an adventure greater than any he could dream of awaited him.
On the afternoon of 11.22.63, David witnessed the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. From where he stood on the “grassy knoll”, he could see every detail of the shattering event. He helped form the gauntlet that allowed the police to get Oswald from the depository to the squad cars. And at the time he also happened to be working for Jack Ruby. David was even able to visit the jail while Ruby awaited trial. His last visit to the book depository was as recent as this May, when he took a dear family friend to see the museum and get the full story of that fateful day.
Even more adventures would come in the forms of marriage, children, ski trips, fly-fishing trips, escapades with friends, building a life with Jana, and his work in real estate development. Everything David did, he did with gusto and passion. And his perseverance and vision for Southlake, TX, is hugely responsible for the success and beauty of the city today. In fact, his influence can be seen at every turn. In addition to his tireless work, David dedicated his time to joyfully supporting both his daughters’ endeavors in the community and school. He didn’t miss a game when Lisa was the Dragon mascot, and he didn’t miss a game when Joanna was playing basketball for the Lady Dragons – both at Carroll High School.
He touched the lives of so many and will forever be remembered for his boyish wonder and exuberance, his compassionate heart, and his love of life and God. He knew he was blessed with many wonderful, deep friendships and his wish was that you all know how much he loved and adored you. Rest in sweet peace, David. Thank you for all that you were, and all that you inspired.

What a beautiful big spirited man, and what a beautiful and heartfelt tribute. I am so sorry for your loss.
Richard & Jan,
I am very saddened for your loss. I didn’t really know David, but I know that he came from a wonderful family. I offer my condolences and pray for your peace and unstanding. Love to you both…………..Elaine
So sorry that I did not know earlier of David’s passing.
He was a great friend, investor, lender, and real estate professional. I join with many mortgage and banking professionals in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area who knew and considered David their friend. We all enjoyed his presence, big heart and to be called his friend.
One could have no better partner in a business deal than David. Charlie Dees EVP of MBank and I worked with David when he was developing residential lots.
He was a professional in every sense of the word and more important he was a “Man of his word”.
He will be missed by all who knew him. May his Spirit live on with his children and Maddie.
God Bless the McMahan Family.

“Mac” lived with his beautiful Jana just three houses down the street from us. We were blessed to have him as our neighbor during these past several years. Driving his black Jeep as he went hurriedly on his way, he always had a warm smile in greeting. In this last courageous battle with serious illness he stubbornly held to his independence and graced his family with his love. Be at peace with God.
Love to Jana for her devotion to “Mac” and her strength of spirit in easing his burden in his last days,
Caroline
