Obituary

Cynthia Gail Bowles, Hume, was born Sep 15, 1956, and passed away Aug 2, 2014, after a year long bout with cancer.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gordon Bowles and Ramona Houston Bowles Whitley. Survived by beloved husband Cliff Hume, sister Sharon Bowles, brother Mark Bowles and wife Diana; nieces Jessica and husband Mark Self and their children Haleigh and Hunter; Erica Bowles and her children Corbin and Charley; nephew Eli Bowles; mother in law Larue Ferrell and her sister Retta Cook; sister in law Ann Sutter and her children William and Stephen; sister in law Leah Wilson and husband Ray; many other loving relatives from the Houston side of the family; and last, but not least, her 4-legged children Trixie and Woody.

Cindy graduated from Sunset High School class of 1974, and University of Texas-Dallas. She went on to have successful careers as an interior designer, bartender at popular Dallas destinations, paralegal, and realtor for Ebby Halliday. Many people considered Cindy one of their best friends because she treated everyone like they were her best friend. Her cousin David Houston said: “ I think Cindy’s gift in life was making people laugh and making them happy and pretty much everyone she ever met loved her. I did.”

Cindy’s family especially thanks “Dr. K’s” team at Texas Oncology.

A memorial celebration of Cindy’s life will be held at Kirby’s Woodfire Grill on Greenville Avenue from 3 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, August 10th. In lieu of flowers, contributions in honor of Cindy should go to the next cancer victim that touches your life. They will need your support.

No Karen- the thunder was Mom falling off the bar stool after Cindy started playing bartender ha ha. Mama was a light weight. Yes they are all together in a far better place than we can even imagine. Cindy has a healthy body again and can be free. We love your enthusiasm and your zest for life Cindy. I will always think of you and your artichoke dip with 5 million calories. You are the reason I got fat ha ha. Love to your family, your “kids” and to Cliff who will now need more support than ever. We are here for you. Don’t forget that. Love – Jennie

When I moved out of state in 2008, Cindy was my realtor and did an excellent job in marketing my home. I had known her for some years through a mutual friend and had socialized several times. Living out of state, I had no idea she had cancer and was sick at heart when I heard the news. I recently found photos of Cindy and I at a party and thought to myself I really should call Cindy and see how she is doing. Sadly, I never got that opportunity. I learned the lesson that we should always reach out to people we know and care about before it’s too late. Cindy was so vivacious, warm, caring and funny. Always smiling, happy and upbeat. She probably has many rolling in the aisles with laughter in Heaven now. RIP. Suzanne

In my sixty years, I have met less than five people that I was immediately drawn to from across the room, and Cindy was one of them. I was not in her closest group of friends and was sorry for that. I envy those that got to spend a lot of time with her! Each time I was leaving any event and saw her, I turned around to sit and talk a while. Her smile and her positive attitude were infectious! What a crazy thing that she was blessed with the external beauty to match! I once was driving to lunch to meet friends, saw that she was showing a house, circled the block and went in to talk with her (she also tried everything to help me get this house!). I was an hour late to my lunch! Anyway, I could not say anything better than what I have already read from Karen and from Cindy’s nephew, but she will be dearly missed!

Cindy was truly one of the sweetest people I ever had the pleasure to know and am so glad to have had her as a friend. She always made me laugh….whenever I walked into work and knew we’d be working together, I knew it was going to be a good night! She was so positive and upbeat-ALL of the time! I feel privileged to have called her my friend.
She’ll be truly missed by so many!
    Rest in peace my Cindy.

Cindy was a co-worker and friend. She was energetic, fun and loved life. Cancer took its toll on her body but not her spirit. I will miss her and her trademark greeting “Hey Chump”

I met Cindy at the White Rock Athletic Club and enjoyed participating in the White Rock Marathon relay race with her and going for long walks at the lake on Sunday mornings. What laughter and joy she brought to others! She had a great sense of humor and enormous courage. We will miss her dearly!

Cindy was such a close friend in Jr. high and High school. We lost track after graduation but I still remember her as one of the sweetest friends I ever had. She will be greatly missed by her Sunset class mates and of course everyone that had the pleasure of knowing her. Rest in Peace our Dear Cindy!

I graduated with Cindy from Sunset and her friendship was so special. It is a shame that good friends can live in the same city and not see each other for so many years I am so sad that Cindy has left this earth yet plan to spend much time with her in heaven. My deepest condolences goes out for to all who loved her. God bless you

I remember Cindy from High School. She was a classy Señor and I was a silly sophomore. I met her the year before when I dated her brother. She was so sweet to me. Helped me with my routines to try out for the Bisonettes. Everyone once in a while, I’ll remember her grace and smile and tried to emulate her. However, no one could come close. Nice that we all knew the Angel on Earth before she went to Heaven.

I met Cindy while on a UTC Audit assignment many years ago and she was managing the Bar in the Hilton Hotel where I stayed. We dated quite a bit and she was one of the finest people I ever had the privilege of knowing. I hated saying goodbye to her, but my home was in the Northeast and I knew that gal was Texas thru and thru. She was too young to be taken, and I know her family must be very sad, but remembering her positive mental attitude, I know she would want you to go forward with her always in your hearts and enjoy life to the fullest. That is the kind of wonderful person she was and I wish her family the strength to carry on in her memory, as she would have wanted them to. A very special Gal who will long be missed. "Nothing prepares you for the grief you go through when losing a child. I called this funeral home at 2:00 am broken and could barely talk. The amount of compassion and empathy they showed me immediately let me know I found the right place to cremate my son. I cannot thank them enough for their professionalism, SINCERE concern, and commitment to making sure my son was honored in the most respectful way. I hope this Funeral home values her as much as my family and I do."

"I can’t say enough about how helpful and professional Dusty Martin, the funeral director at the Aria Cremation location on NW Highway has been. From my initial call, he was kind and informative. My friend died at home while on hospice and she was picked up in about an hour after receiving the call from the hospice nurse. The person who arrived to pick her up was also very professional/respectful and allowed us to take as much time with her as we wished. When I met with Dusty the next day about arrangements, he explained the process and options available without being pushy or trying to “sell” extras. Throughout the process, he kept me informed and, for example, was careful to be certain I understood the cost of the obituary I wanted and offered some options for reducing that cost if I wished. When I stopped by for another reason and started talking about some of the problems I was having with the pictures and media I hoped to use at a memorial lunch I was planning, he not only listened patiently but offered technology advice and let me use his personal media player. I have had experience arranging cremations for four others using two other local companies, and this experience with Dusty at Aria has been by far the best one I have had."

"My Daddy’s service and our family experience at Aria Northwest Highway was truly blessed. Funeral Director Dustin Martin is the kind of person that you would like to see on a more regular basis – but in his industry – you hope to not see him that often. That being said – THANK YOU DUSTIN for your unending kindness, compassion and friendship through the process. Meeting you and discussing Dallas History, Find A Grave and my Dad’s lifelong contributions to the great City of Dallas was simply wonderful! In memory of my dad James A. Dodd, Sr. – I want to personally thank you and let you know that you made everything better in that moment. Your calling to “Be There” is spot on. Aria has a one in a million guy in you! Bling Blinky of TEXAS Shout Out: God Bless You!!"
