Stueber, Mary L.

Mary Stueber, 91 years of age, died peacefully in her sleep on September 6, 2014 at The Plaza at Edgemere in Dallas, TX with her three daughters at her side.  Mary was a loving daughter, wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother.  She was also a fabulous elementary school teacher and principal who always had the students’ and families’ best interests at heart.  She was an amazing role model for The Greatest Generation who valued marriage, family, faith, patriotism, conservative beliefs, character, integrity, hard work, individual responsibility, service to others and doing the right thing in all matters.  She felt that her greatest legacy was her “wonderful family”.

Mary Louise Stueber was born on March 17, 1923 in Sioux City, IA.  She was happily married to her high school sweetheart, Russ Stueber, for 54 years.  She lived in Lincoln, NE, Denver, CO, Wichita Falls, TX, Cheyenne, WY, Laguna Hills, CA and Dallas, TX.

She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, National Association of Elementary Principals, PEO, United Methodist Women’s Association and she received the Delta Kappa Gamma Wyoming State Achievement Award for teaching excellence.  She earned her BA from The University of Nebraska and her MA from The University of Wyoming.

She is preceded in death by her Father, Henry Haney Howerter (August 3, 1889 to January 20, 1957), her Mother, Marie Annetta (Groat) Howerter (April 11, 1892 to February 28, 1986), her devoted husband, Russell Leo Stueber (October 11, 1923 to December 18, 1996 lost battle to Alzheimer’s disease) and sister, Janet (Howerter) Nelson (November 20, 1925 to November 2, 2010).

She is survived by her:

3 Daughters:  Ann (Tom) Linguist from Dallas, TX, Nancy Drege from Highlands Ranch, CO, and Carol (Marty) Wolff from Westminster, CO.

6 Grandchildren:  Lance (Susan) Linguist from Bedford, TX, David (Peggy) Linguist from Waxahachie, TX, Debbie (John) Brasee from Highlands Ranch, CO, Shane (Lanie) Wolff from Highlands Ranch, CO, Tara (Geoff) Leopold from Broomfield, CO and Laura (Brad) Hescock from Dallas, TX.

15 Great-Grandchildren:  Courtney Brasee, Cameron Brasee, Connor Linguist, Garin Leopold, Melanie Linguist, Sam Linguist, Austin Leopold, Jackson Hescock, MaryAnn Hescock, Sierra Leopold, Ryan Leopold, Megan Linguist, Justice Wolff, Sydney Wolff and Kiera Leopold.

Nephews:  Dan (Diane) Nelson, Art (Diane) Stueber and Dick Stueber

Nieces:  Karen (Doak) Sullivan, Kirsten (Craig) Wampler, Kay (David) Moody and Kris Packett

Mary Stueber’s Memorial Service will be held on Friday, September 26th at 11:00am in the sanctuary at First United Methodist Church; 503 North Central Expressway; Richardson, TX 75080.  In addition, a columbarium ceremony will take place outside the church.

A second Memorial Service will be held on Friday, October 31st in Lincoln, NE.  Details will follow.

A third Memorial Service will be held in Denver, Colorado.  Details will follow.
