Obituary
DeWayne Edward Cornish, 66, passed away suddenly on Friday September 26, 2014 at in Plano Texas. DeWayne was born on August 13th, 1948 in Royal Oak Michigan to Edward J. Cornish and Eunice Aileen Shaver Cornish.
DeWayne grew up in Clawson Michigan. He graduated from Clawson High School in Clawson Michigan in 1966.
After high school DeWayne followed the footsteps of his father, serving his country by joining the United States Navy. He graduated boot camp and went on to his first duty station in Atsugi Japan. He continued to serve at many duty stations; Subic Bay Philippines; Midway Island; Imperial Beach, California; Millington Tennessee; Jacksonville, Florida; Patuxent River Maryland; Brunswick Maine. Dewayne also traveled the world during numerous deployments to Iceland, Spain, and Scotland to name a few. He served our country in the Vietnam War. DeWayne’s specialized talents in aviation engineering helped him earn Chief Warrant Officer 3 ranking. In 1991, after serving his country with honor, courage and commitment CWO3 Cornish retired from his final duty station, NAS Brunswick Maine. Over his 25 year career he earned countless medals and honors as a highly decorated officer of the United States Navy.
DeWayne married Carmen and spent a loving 46 years of their lives traveling the world, hand-in-hand as companions and best friends. They loved to drive around the countryside, no matter what country they were in, enjoying the views of the world and dreaming together. DeWayne enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, he was a true mechanic always building and fixing things. Known around the world for his charity to children, he nourished them with food and knowledge every chance he had. His most cherished times were spent with his family, teaching them to be loving, strong, and independent.
DeWayne was preceded in death by his father, Edward J. Cornish, and his mother Eunice Aileen (Shaver) Cornish.
DeWayne is survived by his loving wife, Carmen Cornish of Texas; his children; Edward (Elizabeth) Cornish of Ohio, DeAnn (Jamie) Pich of Canada, Christopher (Pamela) Cornish of Washington, Michelle (Dennis) Walend of Ohio, and Jennifer (Daniel) Cornish Dutch of Pennsylvania. He is survived by his brothers and sisters; Karen Cornish DeMeester of Michigan, Gary (Michelle) Cornish of Michigan, Greg Cornish of Michigan, Deb (George) Bright of Montana, Jeff (Cathy) Cornish of Florida, Chery (Thomas) Lehman of Michigan, and Kevin (Jeanette) of Pennsylvania. He was loved by his grandchildren: Brandon Cornish, Ashton Walend, Amanda Labrecque, Kaytlin Walend, Chase Rodriguez, Jessica Labrecque, Brayden Cornish, Kyle Dutch, Alyssa Cornish, Ariel Pich, Bryson Beaune, Elijah Cornish, and Esabelle Cornish. Great grandchildren; Blake, Leilani, and Jaxon. DeWayne was also survived my numerous nieces and nephews that he treated as his own and held them near to his heart.
Since those that know and love DeWayne are spread all over the world, no memorial service will be held. You can honor DeWayne’s life by a random act of kindness, teach someone something, say a kind word to a stranger, open a door, or share a smile. By doing any of these things you will help DeWayne’s legacy live on, forever.
