Stewart, Margie M.

Margie Musgrove Stewart joined her Lord and Savior in eternal rest on November 27, 2014.

Marge was born in Merryville, Louisiana on April 8,1922. She graduated from Port Neches High School in May 1939 and from the University of Texas John Sealy College of Nursing in March 1942. While working as a pediatric nurse at John Sealy Hospital, she met and married Alan Stewart. Together, Marge and Alan lived a life devoted to their large, loving family, their friends and community service.

A vibrant member of the Lake Jackson community, Marge moved to the Brazosport area in 1947.  She was a founding member of the Brazoria County Medical Auxiliary  (Alliance).  Frequently opening her home to entertain committee members and volunteers, she supported her husband’s efforts in the establishment of Home Delivered Meals and Brazosport College. Her deepest devotion was to her church, First United Methodist of Lake Jackson. Her appreciation for beauty led her to organize the creation of the extraordinary needlepoint paraments, which adorn the sanctuary.

Marge approached all of her projects with an eye for excellence; she had the uncanny ability to take anything and simply make it better.  Gracing her family and friends with her limitless vitality, Marge made famous pancakes, soothed her cherished grandbabies, and perfected her polished home, all with impressive poise.  Her friends will certainly remember her sharing a delicious plate of fudge or lovely fresh camellias and orchids.

Marge is preceded in death by her parents, Boss Musgrove and Mabel Ruston Musgrove; brother, James Musgrove; and beloved husband of 62 years, James Alan Stewart, MD.

She is survived by brothers, Herman and Joe Musgrove; her three daughters, Bettye Stewart Denman, Linda Stewart Claiborne and Sara Stewart Burke, MD; and sons-in-law, Judge Ed Denman, Charles Claiborne, and Robert Burke, MD. Her eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren will never forget her love and generosity.

Following a private family service in Dallas, a celebration of Marge’s life will take place in Lake Jackson at a future date. In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be sent to the Stewart Family Scholarship at Brazosport College, 500 College Drive, Lake Jackson, Texas, 77566.
