Weed, Jr., Richard H.

Richard Horace Weed, Jr. was born October 2, 1921 in Robstown, Texas, to Horace and Lois Weed and lived in Harlingen until moving to Dallas in 2007. He graduated from Harlingen High School and soon enlisted for duty, serving first in the U.S. Air Force and later the U.S. Army, primarily in North Africa and Italy.  Richard married Carolyn Hulan from Kerens, Texas, on June 22, 1946, and they established their home in Harlingen where they raised three children.  Mr. Weed managed the Sears & Roebuck Catalog Department until retiring in 1979.  He was a member of The First Methodist Church and supported many community activities.  He and his wife enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, Mexico, Canada, and Europe, but family always played the most important role in his life.

Richard is survived by Carolyn, his wife of 68 years; three children and their spouses: Carol Jean Whatley and husband Pat, Rick Weed and wife Paulette, Barbara Lee Muggley and her husband Buster; six grandchildren and their spouses: Holly and James Lee, Steven and Ashley Whatley, Beth and Chad Blacklock, Genni and Jimmy Shafer, Trey Muggley, Alisha and Chris Gummer; fourteen great-grandchildren: Daniel and J.D. Lee; Kilee, Sullivan, Mackynzi and Rori Shafer; Madisen, Abbigail, Sonoma and Lexington Gummer; Taylor and Catherine Whatley; Finley and Cole Blacklock.  He is remembered by special friends John T. Ragsdale of Harlingen, Lura Brown of El Dorado, Arkansas, and Teresa Vinzant of Dallas.

A graveside Celebration of Life will be held near Kerens at the Prairie Point Cemetery, Bazette, Texas, on Saturday, January 24 at 1:00.  In lieu of flowers those who wish may send donations to the Prairie Point Cemetery Association care of B. H. Upchurch, 3015 FM 636, Kerens, TX, 75144.

DIRECTIONS TO CEMETERY:
From Corsicana on IH-45 go East on Hwy 31 to Kerens, Texas.  From Hwy 31 in Kerens, Texas take Hwy 636 (NE 3090) North for about 3.5 miles to Morgan Spring Road. Turn Right on Morgan Springs Road and follow NE 3140 and NE 3130 for about 1.7 miles to destination.

I'm so sorry for the loss of Richard. His love of His Country, His community and most important, His family will not be forgotten. We have lost a true treasure! I also happen to relate to "The Donut Shop Song". My hope is that we can all, one day, "gather by the river" to sing it in harmony!
