February 18, 1941 - February 5, 2015
Rose Marie Bruce Jones went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 5, 2015. Born on February 18, 1941 in Beaumont, Texas to Zelma and Carlton Bruce, Rose Marie attended Beaumont schools and graduated from French High School in 1959. She was voted class sweetheart at Bowie Jr. High and was a cheerleader at French. She received her bachelor’s degree from Lamar University where she was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. In 1963, she married Wayne Allen Jones of Beaumont and taught at Forest Park High School. After moves to Tulsa, Houston, back to Beaumont and finally to Longview with Sun Pipeline in 1982, Rose Marie taught in the business department at Spring Hill High School.
Rose Marie was a devoted member of Greggton United Methodist Church where she was active in the Joy-Wellmaker Sunday School Class, sang in the choir and joyfully served her church family in many ways throughout the years. She had a servant’s heart and volunteered at Meals on Wheels and the Longview Interfaith Hospitality Network, a ministry serving homeless families. To say that Rose was an avid bridge player is an understatement. She loved to play and was a member of several bridge groups. Rose Marie never met a stranger and anyone that knew her loved her. Her fun loving sense of humor and infectious laughter will not be forgotten.
Rose Marie is survived by her daughter, Allison and husband, Richard Leigh of Dallas; her son, Christopher and wife, Whitney Jones of Fort Worth; and daughter, Laurie and husband, Scott Collins of San Diego and nine grandchildren, Audrey and Hank Leigh; Taylor, Wilson and Karis Jones; and Catherine, Elizabeth, William and Patrick Collins whom she was so proud of and loved dearly. She adored her sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews whom affectionately called her “Sissy”. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her brothers Teddy and John Gayle Bruce.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 14 at 11:00 a.m. in Longview, Texas at Greggton United Methodist Church (1101 Pine Tree Road).
