We’re so sorry to learn of Don’s passing. He was a good neighbor and friend. Garfield Avenue mourns him and the neighborhood is saddened by his loss.
Was an honor to know Don and Mary while they were in Rockford. God bless. Jeanette and Joe
Our sympathy to Mary and the entire Bartel family. He was a gentleman and it was a pleasure to know him.
Peace and Love, Carol and Dick
Mary and family,my thoughts and prayers are with you. Don and Mary were wonderful friends to Gary and I.
Carol, I am saddened to hear of your Dad passing . I remember him as such a sweet gentleman . Sending prayers for your family. Please tell your Mom I send my love.
You two were a beautiful couple. Sorry for your loss but Don is certainly looking down on us. Dick Fratesi
Dearest Mrs. Bartel, Carol, Keith, Barb, Rick, Pat, “my Jack”, Tom and all of the beloved Grandchildren, Please know that all of you will remain in my thoughts and prayers at this difficult time. As you know your Parents and Grandparents made such a “handsome” couple. The Bartels were brilliant, but never boastful. They always believed in giving back to their community through the form of volunteer work and education. Mr. Bartel was always the consummate gentleman. He always complimented me and made me feel like “queen for a day”, literally. I can just cry thinking of the tender moments I was able to share with Mr.and Mrs. Bartel, however brief through the years.i can still be reminiscient of talking with your remarkable Parents in the corner of your living room. Mr. Bartel was moved to tears talking about Brad’s courageous challenge that he faced as a little boy. Too, your ever protective Grandpa was genuinely concerned about his beautiful Grand daughters safety as they grew older.i was well blessed recently to be in line with your Parents at Dr. L.P. Johnson’s wake service. I recognized your Mother’s gentle laugh and your Dad’s voice. Once again, I was showered with praises. It is not often in life that one can grow up with a best friend and be so embraced by their Parents. God love you, I do.XX Lucy
We’re so sorry. Don had an amazing smile and personality. Such a special man. Such a wonderful person. We will miss him and are so grateful for the memories we have. Mary, after 67 years of marriage, I know you have a very special guardian angel looking over you now. Love and hugs to all…
Mrs. Bartel,
I am sorry to hear of your husbands passing. He was always such a kind man and gracious to those around him. He made you feel like the only person in the room when you talked to him and as a young kid, that was a real treat for the adults to give. My heart and prayers are with your family during this time. I feel blessed to have know Mr. Bartel and I know my folks always considered you both part of our family.
With Love,
Krista Holder
