Obituary

Michael Clark Hyland died on March 6, 2015, in Dallas, TX after a 49 year battle with Cystic Fibrosis (CF). Mike was born on January 30, 1966 in Indianapolis, IN to his parents, Clark and Karen Hyland.  He was a 1984 graduate of Carmel High School, Carmel, Indiana and graduated from Purdue University with an Electrical Engineering degree in 1988.  He married Delonna Eash Hyland in 1990.  The Hylands moved to Texas where Mike worked as an electrical engineer.  After lung and kidney transplants due to complications from CF he retired from engineering to focus on music.  He wrote music, played keyboards in bands with a variety of musical styles, and taught lessons.  Mike was involved in the music ministry of the Lake Highlands United Methodist Church. Mike was blessed to become a father when he and his wife adopted Miles George Hyland as an infant in 2009. Mike was an advocate for organ donation and adoption.  In 1999 he was one of the first lung transplant recipients to run a marathon which received attention from media outlets about the need and benefits of organ donation.  Mike is survived by his wife, Delonna Hyland; son, Miles Hyland; mother, Karen Hyland from Carmel, Indiana; brother, David Hyland from Cincinnati, Ohio and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial will take place on Saturday, March 14 at 2:00 pm at the Lake Highlands United Methodist Church in Dallas, TX – 9015 Plano Rd. Delonna, we are saddened to hear about Michael. We saw Ann in January and she told us he was struggling. We didn’t see him dropping off Miles at CCDC for quite some time and then received a note from Annick. Michael was a very good man, extremely talented, so kind and gentle. I never heard him complain. He’s finally comfortable, no more pain and playing the piano for the King of Kings – our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Gob Bless you and Miles. If we can do anything for you, please don’t hesitate to ask. Jim, Vanessa and Andrew

I’m so sorry for the loss of Michael. I had the pleasure of knowing him both in high school and then later being able to reconnect on Facebook. I’ll always remember Michael’s sense of humor and compassionate heart. I also respect the courage he had in pursuing his ambitions zealously and not allowing CF to get in the way of what he wanted to do. Delonna and Miles even though I don’t know you both personally –you guys are both in my prayers

Having the Hyland family only 3-4 doors down from us growing up, we were all so fortunate to have known Michael and his family from Michael’s earliest days. He was such an intelligent, fun loving and strong individual with a spirit tohat embraced the challenges of CF. Michael made his impact on this world and we are all better for the time we had with him.

Delonna, I was shocked and extremely saddened to learn that Mike had passed. Hope you and your son Miles find comfort in knowing how much Mike was loved by so many people. He and I were on the same “dad’s club” soccer teams as kids and then were fraternity brothers later at Purdue. Mike was always a class act – so talented, smart, and funny.

We were also blessed to grow up with the Hylands in Cool Creek. I have many memories of those years and all include Mike in some way. From kick the can to running through “Mug Alley” we ruled the neighborhood for a time. I’ll remember Mike delivering the Indianapolis News to all the neighbors and a trip to Florida with the whole Hyland family. Rest In Peace Mike, you were a role model to all of us! Our sympathies to Delonna, Miles, Karen, Dave and all the Hylands.

I just found out about Mike’s passing. My son and I got to know Mike and Delonna while attending Lake Highlands UMC. Mike was a wonderful person and exemplified the best any man could ever be. He was funny, and smart and caring and I could go on and on. I am sorry that he is gone but happy to know that God will have him in his hands from now on. Love you Mike!

"Nothing prepares you for the grief you go through when losing a child. I called this funeral home at 2:00 am broken and could barely talk. The amount of compassion and empathy they showed me immediately let me know I found the right place to cremate my son. I cannot thank them enough for their professionalism, SINCERE concern, and commitment to making sure my son was honored in the most respectful way. I hope this Funeral home values her as much as my family and I do."

"I can’t say enough about how helpful and professional Dusty Martin, the funeral director at the Aria Cremation location on NW Highway has been. From my initial call, he was kind and informative. My friend died at home while on hospice and she was picked up in about an hour after receiving the call from the hospice nurse. The person who arrived to pick her up was also very professional/respectful and allowed us to take as much time with her as we wished. When I met with Dusty the next day about arrangements, he explained the process and options available without being pushy or trying to “sell” extras. Throughout the process, he kept me informed and, for example, was careful to be certain I understood the cost of the obituary I wanted and offered some options for reducing that cost if I wished. When I stopped by for another reason and started talking about some of the problems I was having with the pictures and media I hoped to use at a memorial lunch I was planning, he not only listened patiently but offered technology advice and let me use his personal media player. I have had experience arranging cremations for four others using two other local companies, and this experience with Dusty at Aria has been by far the best one I have had."

"My Daddy’s service and our family experience at Aria Northwest Highway was truly blessed. Funeral Director Dustin Martin is the kind of person that you would like to see on a more regular basis – but in his industry – you hope to not see him that often. That being said – THANK YOU DUSTIN for your unending kindness, compassion and friendship through the process. Meeting you and discussing Dallas History, Find A Grave and my Dad’s lifelong contributions to the great City of Dallas was simply wonderful! In memory of my dad James A. Dodd, Sr. – I want to personally thank you and let you know that you made everything better in that moment. Your calling to “Be There” is spot on. Aria has a one in a million guy in you! Bling Blinky of TEXAS Shout Out: God Bless You!!"
