Oinonen, David Lee
Obituary
Oinonen, David Lee February 12, 1968 – March 6, 2015 David Lee Oinonen, age 47, of Dallas, Texas, passed away on Friday, March 6th 2015 after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. David was born on February 12th 1968 to the late Russell Lee Oinonen and Nina Scherbak Oinonen in Painesville, Ohio. He moved to Texas after graduating high school, first to Houston and then to the Dallas area where he graduated from University of North Texas with a degree in Psychology. He leaves behind his partner of 18 years, Todd Karr of Dallas, Texas; his mother Nina Scherbak Oinonen of Mentor, Ohio; his brother and sister-in-law, Michael J. Oinonen and Wendy Gecowets Oinonen, nieces Rachel and Paige Oinonen, and nephew Mitchell Oinonen, all of Carol Stream, Illinois; and his sister Laura L. Oinonen of Columbus, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Peter and Maria Scherbak and Henry and Lillian Oinonen. David will be remembered as a man of many interests – he loved to travel, experience new places and cultures, music and food. He had a wicked sense of humor and was genuinely curious about the world, from history and science to pop culture and current events. He felt a strong connection to the past, deeply rooted in the stories of his family’s history and bonded with both the Finnish and Russian sides. Most of all, David loved to meet new people and tell stories, and was able to converse freely with anyone who came his way – and not just in one language but in Spanish, French, Portuguese and a smattering of other languages. He was a consummate entertainer whose generous spirit was larger than life and who made an impression on everyone who he encountered. He will be missed by the many people he met throughout the years and with whom he went out of his way to keep in touch. I will certainly miss my big brother Dave. Although we may have fought sometimes…we always made up and knew we loved each other. We spent many good times together going out, talking on the phone, and traveling. And to his crazy parties where I got to meet so many of his wonderful friends. He made an impression on so many people he met with his funny jokes, stories, and imitations! I’m glad he passed peacefully but wish he was still here. I know he is here in spirit and I will see him again.
I love you always
David you will be missed. You left us so suddenly, and I know you are making a grand entrance in heaven. David could always manage to put a smile on your face. Words cannot express the shock and sadness I am feeling right now. Prayers to the family and RIP my friend.
The world is emptier with David’s passing. He was a wonderful man and a dear friend. My wife and I loved him very much and will miss his presence in our lives.
Hy heart hurts for all of the family left behind especially for Todd. For all the times I got to spend with David either by email, IM, phone or in person through our connection while he was at TRX, KDS and then Concur.. he made my day every time I spoke to him. I would answer the phone and he would be YELLING.. WHAT WHAT WHAT in a crazy lady voice which would make me just bust out laughing. He always knew what to say. A memory that will always make me smile- he and I arrived in Jacksonville FL for a meeting. In his David way.. he needed a convertible for us to drive in, RED of course. We drove fast down the highway laughing and singing, until I said that we were driving into dark clouds and should put the top up, he said we’d be fine. WE drove into a Monsoon of rain.. We had to pull over and figure out how to manually lift the top because the electric button wouldn’t work. David being David was making me laugh so hard I peed. I couldn’t stop laughing so hard at him, at us, at the rain. I love you David and will miss you dearly! XOXO Monica
I loved him and will miss him dearly. Save a place for me in the heavenly choir Dave!
We have a saying in our house that was one of David’s. He apologized to a Steve Lorenz when he tracked dirt on the floor. He said, “My god, I’m sorry, I’ve filled your house with forest particles!” We have said this in our house for years now, as apology, as complaint, as a description of crappy feelings, as acknowledgement of the outside world. It’s just so David. Funny and creative and gracious all at once. I keep thinking about the hole that such a person leaves in the world.
My condolences to Todd and the family. David’s infectious laughter is what I’ll remember most. I’m sorry for your loss and pray peace and comfort for the days ahead.
I will miss you, David. You were always so funny and entertaining, kind and sweet. I will never forget the impact you have had on my life. RIP.
Dave was hands down the funniest and most dramatic entertainer I have ever been blessed to know. He created an atmosphere of happiness, laughter, compassion and understanding at the drop of a hat to get you fully engaged with him. I have no doubts about the joy he continues to spread. His departure is very saddening but yet he has left us all wanting to gather together for what will truly be a celebration of life.
Rest in Peace David. Such a wonderful man full of life. My condolences to his partner, mother, siblings and the hundreds of other people Dave left behind.
David you will be truly missed you taught me so much about true friendship and always welcomed with open arms Todd as well I will do my best to watch over Todd and I know you will always be a guardian angel to us all im very saddened and will always think about you I love you my friend rest in piece
My prayers to the family so sorry to lose a wond ER full person. Dave and I graduated the same year however we were not close he always spoke to me. When you would see him laughter and smiled no matter what.
He was a one of a kind. Prayers to his family and Todd
David was an incredible man and the world is certainly not as happy a place without him. My deepest sympathy to his family. I only hope and pray he is now at peace.
David was an amazing person. He could always make me laugh with his unpredictable humor. I never knew what was coming out of his mouth but it would always leave me in stitches. He was SMART, crazy smart and incredibly dedicated. I don’t think I ever logged into work at night when he wasn’t online. David had a huge heart and we are all better for knowing him. Todd, I am so truly sorry for your loss. Praying for peace for all who knew and loved David!
Our heartfelt sympathies to Todd and Dave’s family. Dave’s warm smile, zest for life and wonderful sense of humor made him one of a kind…..we will miss you, Dave.
I had the pleasure of meeting David during one of our Concur Fusion events and he was in fact very open, very friendly, and full of life. During following events we grew closer together because of his sense of humor and great attitude. No problem was big enough for David. He shall be missed by many at Concur. RIP my friend. My condolences to the family he leaves behind.
David touched many lives with his unique gift to befriend those he met. We were lucky to be among those that crossed paths with David. The world lost a little bit more sparkle with the loss of David. We will always cherish the time we had with him.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Todd and David’s family.
David had the exceptional gift of bringing fun and laughter to any situation and is the cause of many wonderful memories. It is a treasure to have known such a special person and he will forever be in our hearts. Much love to Todd and David’s family.

TQM!! ❤️❤️❤️
Todd my prayers are with you and Dave’s family..
RIP my cousin, I’ll see you again someday. Tell my brothers I said hey and I miss them.
Uncle Dave,
I was always so excited for you and Uncle Todd to visit us – you made me laugh, were fun to play with, and always brought nice presents. I hope you are happy in heaven now – I am going to miss you.
My heartfelt condolences to Todd and the Oinonen family. David could turn any situation into a hilarious event. And he was as smart as he was funny. I will never forget the time he came to my house to pick me up and as we drove away he yelled out the window to my family standing there “I want you OUT of Falcon Crest!” We have repeated that many, many times. He was in a class by himself. Rest in peace.
He will never truly be gone. Anyone who ever met Dave could never forget him. My heart goes out to Todd and to the Oinonen family for their sudden loss.
My heartfelt condonlences to Todd and Dave’s loved ones. I met Dave when he lived in Houston and always enjoyed his company. He had a huge heart and would help out anyone that he could. Love and hugs
I’ve never known a person more full of love and life nor one who had such a positive impact on everyone he met. Everyone was his friend and he treated his friends like precious gifts. David was a precious gift! My heart and prayers go out to Todd and the rest of David’s family. May you find some comfort in all the love sent your way at this time of unfathomable loss.
It’s all so unbelievable that Dave is gone from this world and I will never enjoy a “little blue – cleaner” with him ever again. You were such a breath of fresh air to be around- you will be missed tremendously

David and I were RHS classmates. He had a great sense of humor and was always thinking outside the box. He will be greatly missed. To Todd and the family, please accept my deepest sympathy.
A one of a kind person with the largest heart ever. He will be greatly missed. I am grateful I knew him. Love to all.
It’s been a difficult few days, but relieved you are not suffering. We met you out one night in Houston, TX and you invited us to the Joshua Tree Apt. You were so kind, generous, funny, and just fabulous! RIP sweet friend. Keep your friends and family safe & strong.
Even though David and I never “met” I loved working with him. David had the knack for making connections with people. He could build a bridge, he could build an entire relationship, just over the phone. I will miss him dearly. I will miss his stories about the orange tree out back, about the times he spent in France, and of course his wonderful stories of growing up.
Thank you to his family for sharing him with us. I will try to hold onto his love of the absurd and to his ability to dedicate himself to whoever he was speaking to.
David, I wish you Godspeed as you start on this new journey!
Having worked with David, i learned him as a really friendly, incredibly hard working person. I’m shocked and sad to hear about his loss, and extend my condoleances to all who held David dear.
David was a bright light and will be surely missed.
David and I befriended one another at the age of 13. We shared so many happy memories that I will always cherish. I will remember him as one of the brightest and vibrant lights in my life. My heart goes out to Todd and David’s Family. Thinking about you all during this time.
