Allen was the greatest boss that I have ever had the pleasure of working for. I am beyond saddened by the news of his passing. There has not been a day that has gone by sine I met him, that I have not thought of him.
Please except my condolences. I never knew Allen well, we spent a lot of time together over a few days in Colton when his brother, my best friend Earl passed away. I helped him move things out of Earl’s apartment and so on before he went home. I was given Earl’s Army uniform and medals and ribbons attached and I was asked by my American Legion post to make a case for it to display in my American Legion post in which me and Earl were members. I went ahead and made the case but a few members voted down the display of it for unknown reasons, so here I was with his uniform and not knowing what to do with it. I kept it all these years but it should go to his family. If anyone reads this that knows a family member who would like the uniform, I will gladly mail it to them. Allen was a nice man and a good man like his brother Earl. I use to help Earl cook dinners etc. at our legion post. I think he learned to cook from his brother Allen. Earl had no family in Colton, but he had hundreds of friends there. He also belonged to the Inland Empire Airborne Association. All my friends are now dead, Earl was the last to die. we shared good times and bad times. I gave him a ride the the VA Hospital in Loma Linda the morning of his scheduled operation and I was going to pick him up when he was ready to come home, but he passed away during the operation. I hadn’t cried since my father died but I did that day knowing my buddy was gone. I’m a U.S. Navy veteran and served on a destroyer stationed on the East Coast. I never served in Vietnam. I spent two years at sea and foreign duty which was mostly in the Mediterranean. Earl respected my service as much as I did his. Allen invited me to visit him in Northern California where he managed a country club, but I never had the chance to take him up on his offer. I thank him for his service to his country and his friendship.
