Anna Marie Steppe, 65, passed away in Dallas, TX this past Memorial Day weekend after a brief yet fierce fight with cancer. Born in Houston, TX , she enjoyed a well-travelled childhood with tales of India and other exotic places with New Orleans, LA serving as home base.
Marie graduated from Meadows Draughn Business School in 1968. 1968 also saw Marie’s marriage to Jay Steppe and thus began the early years as a young Air Force family with stops in San Antonio, Shreveport, and the Philippines before assignment to Washington D.C. Transitioning from the military life, Marie and her family landed once again in New Orleans. Finally, the 80’s arrived and with them Marie’s family relocated to The Colony, TX where she remained until the end of the century. Empty nesters, Marie and Jay moved east to Eros, LA where hurricanes and holidays often filled their house with family and guests. After a brief stint in Houston in 2009, Marie found herself widowed and moved to Monroe, LA until her retirement and eventual move to Little Elm, TX to be closer to family.
Marie continued her travelling ways throughout the past decade as she racked up the mileage on Highway 59 and Interstates 20 and 45. She was always up for whatever adventures her grandchildren had planned and was often present at their concerts and on the sidelines cheering them on. A daytrip to Six Flags, weekend in New Orleans, or vacation in Florida and Oma was a valued companion helping keep the mood light and the kids in line.
Anna Marie Steppe joins her late husband, Raymond J. ‘Jay’ Steppe, Jr., and is preceded in death by her parents, Gerald J. and Anna M. McGovern, and her parents-in-law, Ray and May Steppe, as well as her brother-in-law Harold Steppe. She is survived by her son, Raymond Steppe, daughter Stacy Danby, and daughter-in-law, Debra Steppe and seven grandchildren, Ryan, Riley, Grant, Jacob, Gavin, Mallory, and Nina. She is also survived by her siblings, Gerald, Patty, Mike, and Marcos, and their spouses, Bobby, Robin, and Heidi, and their children, Terry, Julie, Eric, Robert, John, Chris, Riley, Hannah, and Asher. She is further survived by her sisters-in-law, Doris Steppe and Becky Steppe, and Becky’s children, Gretchen, Hal, and Melissa. Her family can be found in Alaska, Arizona, Louisiana, Missouri, New Mexico, Ohio, Texas, and Virginia.
The width and breadth of the lives she touched was revealed as friends showed great support and provided comfort and aid during her brave battle. And although she faced the end head-on, it is her youthful exuberance for life that will be most cherished by her family. Among her last words to us, “everything for a reason.”

Marie was such a special person and a dear, sweet friend...not to mention a great cook and I was happy to sample many of her creations. She was a joy to work with and a blessing to know. She loved her family with all of her heart, and adored those grandchildren. She'll always be missed, and I'll treasure her memory always. I'm so terribly sorry for your loss, and I'll continue to keep you in my prayers.

Dear Raymond and Stacy, Your Mom was more my sister, than my sister-in-law. I will miss her more than words can express. Love, Aunt Becky
