Rochman, Benjamin Peter
Obituary
Benjamin Peter Rochman
“Grief is the last act of love we have to give those we loved. Where there is deep grief, there was great love.”
Benjamin “Ben” Peter Rochman passed quietly from this life Sunday, June 14, 2015 in Dallas, Texas. A fine young man always wearing a smile and sharing a cheerful word, he lifted spirits and blessed all whom he encountered.
Born March 28, 1979, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Ben attended Gorsebrook Jr. High, St. Pat’s High, then on to San Jacinto College in Houston. He always knew he wanted to live in Texas and moved here in 2003. He loved anything “Texas” and collected “Texas” from then on. Texas was home forever. Ben met his partner, Jason Taylor, in 2004. The two instantly connected and enjoyed being together every moment God gave them. Ben and Jason jointly bonded in marriage on October 18, 2013 in a celebration of love and commitment.
Ben was a special person with a multitude of interests. Shopping was at the top of the list, along with cooking and entertaining family and friends. And let’s not forget the games he loved playing as well! Ben shared a kindred spirit of travel with Jason, who took him to many wonderful places both stateside and abroad. He loved animals large and small. Horses and dogs were his favorites, especially their three dogs; Coco, Cooper and Milo. Being environmentally conscious, Ben was a driven recyclist, a passion which was adopted by some family members and others as a result.
Loving life, laughter and people, Ben’s life was cut short by an unexpected accident at the age of 36. His sweet, sweet smile, twinkling eyes and zest for life will remain with us forever.
Ben is survived by his partner and husband of eleven wonderful years, Jason Taylor; mother, Meredyth Mitchell Rochman, of River John, Nova Scotia; father and stepmother, Peter and Gail Rochman of Adelaide, Australia; sister, Stephanie Rochman of Duncan, British Columbia; and his brother, Tobias Rochman of Montreal, Canada. He is also survived by his parents-in-law, Don and Wanda Taylor of Abilene, Texas; brother-in-law, Travis; sister-in-law, Julia; and nephew, Jax Henri Taylor, all of Cold Spring, New York.
Services will take place in the chapel at North Dallas Funeral Home, 2710 Valley View Lane, Farmers Branch, Texas 75234. The family will welcome guests for a viewing from 3-5 p.m. on Friday, June 19, 2015. A funeral will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2015. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to Ben’s favorite charity, the ASPCA or the Humane Society.

So sad to hear about Ben, one of my best childhood friends. So many of my fondest memories are of our times together, our pet crow, Blackers, who passed the same day we found him, but we insisted on a late night service, singing songs we learned in music class…. Recording our version of ‘Rock Around The Clock’on cassette as ‘The Fresh Kids’ which I still have. Even pretending that we were’ going steady’in grade 6 and exchanging chewed gum behind the school to trick the other kids into thinking we kissed….My thoughts are with you all, thinking of you Meredyth.
The world has lost such an amazing human. Ben was one of my best friends as a kid, and I will never ever forget how much fun we shared together.
My deepest sympathy to his family. Ben was a great coworker and the sweetest person. He will be missed.
God Bless you all,
Mona Paul
