Obituary

Iris Marie Jobe was born on Valentine’s Day, 1924 in Prescott, Arkansas.  She was the youngest of six children. In 1946, when she was only 22 years old she met and married Boyd Dominy.  They soon traveled to Dallas where they proudly settled and began to raise their family.  They had three sons…Jerry, James and Kenneth.  She loved her family and was always the perfect hostess to drop in guests and neighborhood kids.  She loved to cook and entertain. Unlike most, she enjoyed it when Boyd would surprise her with dinner guests and magically she could handle the three kids and still entertain friends.  She knew how to make a house a home. In 1968, Boyd passed away and there she was with 3 sons, a home and a business to help run.  She did it with confidence and grace.  Her family adored her. In November of 1970 she married another great man, Harry Lynn Freeland.  Harry had a son named Jerry also and everyone became one big happy family.  They loved home cooked meals, and going to the country to relax.  It was all about family. When grandkids came along, she became “Granny”.  Most of the stories that are told through the years revolve around Thanksgiving and Christmas festivities. She was a master in the kitchen.  We will all miss her chicken and dumplings, cornbread stuffing, jam cake, and chocolate pie (It was a must!). The list is endless.  Up until her very last days, she was still telling us to order the right sized turkey for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Iris loved many things.  She was an avid reader sometimes reading 2 books a week.   Even at 91 she had mastered using her KINDLE.  She loved her home and her church, but at the top of her list was always her family.  She enjoyed her visits over the years to “the country”.  We called it “the farm”, but to her, it was always “the country”.  She would cook, clean, and do a little fishing.  She just loved life and the many memories of that getaway place. We all love you and will miss you every day.  Granny is survived by her children, Jerry and Carolyn, James and Susan, Kenneth and Robin, and Jerry and Kathy, 13 grandchildren: Steve, Candy, Jeff, Amanda, Mark, Lauren, Brad, Mimi, Angie, John, Jimmy, Lisa and Kimberly.  17 great grandchildren: Chelsea, Austin, Jocelyn, Dawson, Landon, Christina, Marshall, Jordan, Taylor, Kayla, Karson, Caroline, Dameaon, Serena, Malakai, Lachlynn and Lyndley. A Celebration of her life will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at First United Methodist Church 907 W. Main Street, Lewisville, Texas 75067. In lieu if flowers, please make donations in memory of Iris to the Permanent Endowment Fund for First United Methodist Church  214-502-0696 Arrangements are under the direction of ARIA Cremation Service and Funeral Home 19310 Preston Road Dallas, Texas 75252 214-306-6700

I can never forget Iris. Her parents the Jobes, gave us a place to live and babysit my daughter. Iris always checked on me when she visited her mom. I was pregnant. My husband worked for the Dominys for 26 years. Iris always let my family go the farm in the summer.
Iris sat with my husband when he had cancer so that I could get some rest. She was a beautiful lady.Jerry, James and Kenneth. Your loss is Gods gain. You were very blessed to have her for 91 years.

My family lived on Kiesthill in Dallas next to Mr. and Mrs. Freeland for many years. They were such kind and gracious neighbors. My mom called Mrs. Freeland after Mr. Freeland passed away and they had a lovely time catching up.

I will always remember your mother fondly. Please know that this family is in my thoughts as you mourn her passing.

    Fondly,
    Jo Ellen Early
(Daughter of Jud and Ora Early)

"Nothing prepares you for the grief you go through when losing a child. I called this funeral home at 2:00 am broken and could barely talk. The amount of compassion and empathy they showed me immediately let me know I found the right place to cremate my son. I cannot thank them enough for their professionalism, SINCERE concern, and commitment to making sure my son was honored in the most respectful way. I hope this Funeral home values her as much as my family and I do."

"I can’t say enough about how helpful and professional Dusty Martin, the funeral director at the Aria Cremation location on NW Highway has been. From my initial call, he was kind and informative. My friend died at home while on hospice and she was picked up in about an hour after receiving the call from the hospice nurse. The person who arrived to pick her up was also very professional/respectful and allowed us to take as much time with her as we wished. When I met with Dusty the next day about arrangements, he explained the process and options available without being pushy or trying to “sell” extras. Throughout the process, he kept me informed and, for example, was careful to be certain I understood the cost of the obituary I wanted and offered some options for reducing that cost if I wished. When I stopped by for another reason and started talking about some of the problems I was having with the pictures and media I hoped to use at a memorial lunch I was planning, he not only listened patiently but offered technology advice and let me use his personal media player. I have had experience arranging cremations for four others using two other local companies, and this experience with Dusty at Aria has been by far the best one I have had."

"My Daddy’s service and our family experience at Aria Northwest Highway was truly blessed. Funeral Director Dustin Martin is the kind of person that you would like to see on a more regular basis – but in his industry – you hope to not see him that often. That being said – THANK YOU DUSTIN for your unending kindness, compassion and friendship through the process. Meeting you and discussing Dallas History, Find A Grave and my Dad’s lifelong contributions to the great City of Dallas was simply wonderful! In memory of my dad James A. Dodd, Sr. – I want to personally thank you and let you know that you made everything better in that moment. Your calling to “Be There” is spot on. Aria has a one in a million guy in you! Bling Blinky of TEXAS Shout Out: God Bless You!!"
