Obituary
Rob went to be with his Lord and Savior around 5:00 AM on August 21st 2015 after a long illness. Robert Lester Darling was born on Oct 3, 1926 to parents: Robert. E. Darling Jr. and Ethel Mae Vreeland Darling of Far Hills, New Jersey. Rob proudly served his country in World War 11, having enlisted in the Navy as soon as they would allow him to at the age of 17 years. He served in the South Pacific on board the US St Louis CL 49 ” The Lucky Lou” , the lead ship of her class of light cruisers. The St Louis was very active in the Pacific during World War II, fighting many battles, she earned eleven battle stars. Rob was always proud of serving his country and attended many of his ships reunions over the years. Rob leaves behind his beloved wife and companion of 34 years: Mayme Ruth Boatwright Darling of Dallas Texas; Children: Bob Darling and his wife Kathi of Easton, Pa, Jeffrey Darling of Moore Twp. Pa, Wendi Darling and her husband Jorge of Mansfield Twp, NJ; Grandchildren: Kelley Darling, Bobby Darling, Timothy Darling, Amy Hawrylo, Megan Kesslar, Adam Esteves, and Sarah Hall; 6 Great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews; Sister- Millie Toth and husband Ray of South Plainfield, NJ; Brother- Richard Darling and wife Linda of Harlingen,Texas; Ruth ‘s children and Robs step children; Sandra, Lonnie, Pamela and Debra; step grand children; Michael Brandon, Thomas Jason, Stefanie and Matthew; and 6 step gr grandchildren. Rob certainly was a blessing to our family for all these years. I know he brought such happiness and was a delight to Ruth and we are so fortunate to have had him with us.
