Brothers, Rockford W.
Obituary
Rockford Wayne Brothers (Rocky), died August 30, 2015. Rocky was born on July 28, 1945 in Galveston, TX. He is preceded in death by his father, Ralph J. Brothers and his mother Juanita Brothers. He is survived by his siblings, Ronald Brothers, Judy Eaton, and Joel Brothers. He is also survived by his children; son Scott Brothers and wife Diana, their children Evan, Morgana, and Jonathan, his son Jay Brothers, his son Kyle Brothers and his wife Heather, their children Stephen, Katie, Ford and Anna, daughter Roxanne Brothers, daughter Stephanie Dettmer and husband Nate, their daughter Annalyn. Rocky was an avid hunter and fisherman his whole life. In his final days he was still reminiscing of the first time he went with his dad to hunt squirrels. His most peaceful moments were spent outdoors. Rocky and his family spent many summer vacations on the Texas Coast fishing and enjoying all that the surroundings had to offer. Rocky could not hide the joy he felt on those trips to the Texas coast. Rocky enjoyed watching sports. You could bet that if College Softball or College Baseball was on, he was watching or at the very least recording the game. Even in his last month you could catch him watching the Little League World Series. Rocky also loved to play cards and dominoes with his children. He spent hours playing cards into the late nights with his children. He also enjoyed a good game of solitaire from time to time. Rocky was an excellent cook. He enjoyed preparing BBQ and other items for his family. It was often said that no one could starve at a deer camp when Rocky was present. He loved food and would experiment with all kinds of things. Rocky had a green thumb and could make anything grow. His children can not remember a time in which there was not some small plant occupying space in the window sill on its way to becoming a hanging basket in someone’s home. Rocky was very generous and giving to others. He had a very sarcastic sense of humor that made him stand out from the crowd. When he gave you a hard time, it was because he liked you. In his final days, his humor never left him. As one of his nurses said “He is a character!” and he definitely was. He will be greatly missed. The family has chosen to honor Rocky’s wishes by not having a formal service. His family will be returning him to the place he called home and loved most, Galveston, TX. In lieu of flowers, the family request prayers for those Rocky is leaving behind.
