Obituary
Jerry Estes Deckard was born on August 17, 1926 to the late Harry Foster Deckard and Jesse Ferrell Estes Deckard in Whitesboro, Texas. He passed away peacefully on September 11, 2015 at the age of 89 years. Jerry served in the United States Navy during WWII and awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and later served as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Reserves. He was a graduate of University of Colorado and University of Texas at Austin. Jerry owned his own business, Deckard Business Forms, where he worked until retirement. He enjoyed traveling, volunteering as a consultant at the Cavanaugh Flight Museum and sharing his WWII experiences at schools and Veteran’s celebrations. He also enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, and his morning coffee time at the Corner Bakery with his brother, Harry Mac and closest friend, Harry Franklin. He was preceded in death by his parents and the love of his life, wife, Sally Wadene Connell Deckard, whom he missed dearly. He is survived by his adoring children; sons, Harry W. Deckard of Austin, Texas and Larry A. Deckard and his wife, Carol of Edwards, Colorado; daughter, Karen Deckard Simpson of Carrollton, Texas; 6 grandsons, Jonathan Simpson and wife, Kate, Ryan Simpson, Bradley Simpson, and Cole Simpson, Kevin McAffee and Jeffery Deckard; one great-grandson, Hunter Simpson. He is also survived by his brother, Harry Mac Deckard and his wife, Carmen of Dallas. The family will receive friends during visitation from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M., on Thursday, September 17, 2015 at North Dallas Funeral Home Chapel 2710 Valley View Lane, Dallas, TX 75234. He will be laid to rest at 10:00 A.M., Friday, September 18, 2015 at Dallas Ft Worth National Cemetery in Dallas after a committal service with military honors.
